Manual Handling
What is manual handling training?
Our manual handling training courses will help employers, managers, safety representatives and the self-employed to control and reduce the risk of injury from manual handling.
Our bespoke training packages can include a complete risk assessment of each manual handling task within your business. This will identify solutions and practices which may or may not be reasonably practicable.
These practises can then be introduced into your company's training programme.
Our training is very interactive, ensuring the learners get plenty of hands on experience and fully understand the benefits from practicing proper lifting and moving techniques for both themselves and the company.
Why is manual handling important in the workplace?
Manual handling causes over a third of all workplace injuries. These include work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) such as pain and injuries to arms, legs and joints, and repetitive strain injuries of various sorts.
Why do we need manual handling training?
Manual handling training gives employees the skills to safely undertake manual handling tasks, reducing their risk of injury. Appropriate training empowers participants to ensure they are working safely, comfortably and productively at work.
Key reasons to manage health and safety in the workplace
1. Moral reasons with a Duty of Care! We should not be letting employees become ill or injured in the workplace…
2. Financial reasons. There may be some investment responsibilities here, but if we measure the ‘cost versus the consequence’ we can determine the level of financial investment required…
3. The Health and Safety ay Work Act 1974 provides the legal framework to promote, stimulate and encourage high standards of health and safety in places of work. It protects employees and the public from work activities.
4. Under the law employers are responsible for health and safety management. It is an employer’s duty to protect the health, safety and welfare of their employees and other people who might be affected by their business. Employers must do whatever is reasonably practicable to achieve this.
Training can be important in raising awareness and reducing risk, but it won't ensure safe manual handling on its own. You should first design the manual handling operations to be as safe as reasonably practicable. manual handling risk factors and how injuries can happen.
