The death has occurred of Sr M. Regina McDermott, Convent of Mercy, Newry, peacefully at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home Kilmorey St., Newry, on January 10th 2026

Deeply regretted by her Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy, Northern Branch and by her sister Moya, her sisters in law Cassie and Breda, her nieces and nephews, her family circle and many friends. Predeceased by her parents Alice and William, sisters Claire and Ailish and brothers Liam and Basil.

Reposing at the Convent of Mercy 35 Warrenpoint Rd Newry on Sunday 11th January from 2pm until 6pm. Funeral Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick and Saint Colman on Monday 12th January at 1pm. Burial afterwards in the St Patrick’s Cemetery, Dromore Rd., Banbridge.

We, the family of Maura Byrne, wish to express our heartfelt thanks to all who supported us during our recent bereavement.
Thank you to all who attended the funeral mass and burial, to those who visited the house during the wake, and the many who sent Mass cards, flowers and messages of condolence and support.
We are especially grateful to all our friends and neighbours who helped in practical ways, bringing food, caring for visitors, serving tea and assisting with traffic and parking. A special word of thanks to St. Joseph's Parochial Hall for supplying chairs and O'Hanlon's GFC for allowing us to use their carpark.
Our heartfelt thanks to all the staff of Avila Nursing Home - specifically the Derrymore Suite, who cared for Mummy with dignity and compassion, particularly during the final weeks of her illness.
To the Paramedics, Acute Home Care team, GPs at Dr Cupples, Huey and McCreedy, Loughbrickland, we as a family genuinely thank you for your attention, care and support.
We would like to thank Fr. Kevin Conway and Fr. Martin Kavanagh for visiting Mummy, for their pastoral support to the family and for the beautiful funeral mass. We extend our gratitude to Kerrie Kennedy for the beautiful music (accompanied by Maura’s granddaughter Aoibh), Glenn GFC and St. Joseph & St. James PS for their respectful Guard of Honour and to everyone else who participated in the service.

Thank you to John and Lisa Kennedy for the catering after the Funeral Mass and to Glenn GFC for the use of their premises.

The family of the late Pauline Dunne would like to express our sincere gratitude and thanks to all who sympathised with us on the loss of our mother.

To all those who attended the wake and funeral, sent cards, messages on social media and floral tributes .

To our many family, friends and neighbours who worked tirelessly to support us over the course of the wake and funeral – those who provided food, made dinners, served tea, ensuring we were all taken care of.

We would like to thank the District Nursing Team at Ivybrook and the Marie Curie nurses for all their care , compassion and support during Mummy’s illness. Also a special thanks to the Cancer Centre in Belfast who cared for our mother throughout her illness.

A special thanks to Canon Brown for his guidance, spiritual care and beautiful requiem mass, to Siobhan McGivern for the lovely music provided and to Karen McArdle who wrote the beautiful reflection.
A word of thanks to Ballyholland GAA for accommodating us for refreshments after the Funeral mass.

Her remains will repose in Charles Digney & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Sugar House Quay, Newry on Wednesday from 12noon until 2pm & 5pm until 8pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10.30am in Ss. Patrick & Colman’s Cathedral. Burial afterwards in Monkshill Cemetery.

REV. FATHER TEAVE CARROLL, NEWRY AND LONDON

Father Teave, formerly of Mary Street in Newry and then fifty years a priest in London, where he passed away in the Parish Hospice.

Teave died yesterday in Saint Joseph’s Hospice in London. He was a son of a Newry docker and nephew of the late Archbishop Francis Carroll SMA, Papal Nuncio to Cape Palmas in Liberia.

Teave’s earthly remains will be interred among his London parishioners, according to his wishes.

We the family of the late Fionnuala Hartigan wish to thank all those who supported us during our recent sad bereavement.

To all our family, friends and neighbours who paid their respects at the wake, sent messages of support, attended the funeral or offered support in any way: we truly appreciate it.

Our sincere thanks to the Newry Health Village, the nurses and doctors at the Cancer Centre, Belfast City Hospital and Evora Hospice in Newry for all their care and support to Fionnuala during her illness.

The funeral mass was a beautiful celebration of Fionnuala’s life, and we are forever grateful to those who helped make it such a fitting tribute to her. We wish to express our deep gratitude to Fr Patsy Mulholland for celebrating the funeral mass and providing her with great comfort during her illness.

To Terry, Seamus and Paula Rafferty for the beautiful music and to the soloists Tara Russell and Annamarie Boyle.
