🛟 From learning lifesaving skills to teaching them – the full circle moment! Congratulations Dearbhala🙌

Dearbhala has been part of Curran Lifesaving since she was just 10 years old – starting out in our Rookie Lifeguard classes, moving on through the National Lifesaving Academy, and now she’s gone and smashed her Swim Ireland Level One Teaching Qualification 🙌💦

From her very first Bronze Rookie certificate to now becoming a qualified teacher, it’s been amazing to watch her grow and achieve so much. 💙

We’re so proud of you, Dearbhala – and we know you’ll be brilliant at helping the next wave of rookies and lifesavers come through! 🏊‍♀️✨

Curran Lifesaving School is looking for Junior Teaching Assistants to join our busy Water Smart and Rookie Lifeguard classes 🏊‍♀️🌊

📍 Sundays 11am–12pm
📌 Newry Leisure Centre

If you have a Level 1 Qualification, NPLQ, or a strong interest in working with children and are keen to work towards your qualification, we’d love to hear from you! 🙌

This is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience, build confidence, and be part of a team dedicated to water safety and lifesaving skills.

A huge congratulations to all the boys and girls who successfully completed a Water Smart Award this week at Curran Lifesaving School. 🎉👏

This award focuses on building essential water safety knowledge and skills, helping our swimmers not only grow in confidence in the pool but also learn how to stay safe around water. 🌟

We are so proud of their achievements and the effort they’ve shown — these are skills for life! 💙

It’s been a busy and brilliant week at Curran Lifesaving School!

We’ve had a wave of achievements and exciting firsts that we just had to share:

⭐️Bailey, one of our Junior Assistants, completed his Swimming Teaching Qualification – huge congratulations to him!

⭐️Gráinne renewed her Beach Lifeguard qualification, keeping her skills sharp and ready for the season ahead.

⭐️We welcomed a brand new group of Junior Assistants – 5 pictured here and 4 more boys who somehow managed to miss the photo (don’t worry boys we’ll get you next time).

⭐️Jaxon became the very first child to complete our RLSS WaterSmart classes – a proud milestone for him and for us!

⭐️We also kicked off our first 2-hour monthly First Aid session, back in action since the pool reopened – amazing to see everyone back learning vital skills!

Well done to everyone involved – the future of lifesaving is definitely in great hands!

Brilliant news with the reopening of Newry Leisure Centre.

Our new term of lifesaving & WaterSmart Lessons are back starting on the 16th March.

We have spaces available in:

- Rookie Lifeguards (U12 for those who can swim 25m+)
- National Lifesaving Academy (Age 12+)
- WaterSmart Classes (Age 3 - 17 For those new to the water).

All of our courses teach children key skills on how to save themselves and others around the water. The courses focus on teaching water based rescue techniques as well as first aid and CPR.

Why not come along to Newry Leisure Centre Sunday mornings at 11am and let you child learn skills for life🏊‍♀️

Curran Lifesaving School is coming back soon to Newry Leisure Centre on Sunday mornings from 11am until 12am.

Our company provides Royal Lifesaving Society courses for the National Pool Lifeguard qualifications, the Life Saving Academy Award, the Rookie Lifeguard Award and the new Water Smart lifesaving award.

Whilst the pool is closed for essential maintenance, we would like to share another opportunity for our members to get involved in.

Many of our swimmers are already members of Newry Rowing Club, and there is an opportunity over the Easter break for young people to get involved in the beginner program and then to join the club!

Our instructors Aoife, Grainne, Meadhbh, Dearbhla, Laura and Katiemay are involved in coaching in the club.

The beginner programme runs:
Thursday 4th April 3-4.30
Friday 5th April 3-4.30
Saturday 6th April 10-11.30

We currently have a couple of open places in our water Smart classes! They run for half an hour every Sunday morning in Newry Leisure Centre at 11am or 11.30am!

Suitable for age 3+,

Water Smart will help your child become more comfortable in the water, building confidence and safety, providing them with a foundation of skills and knowledge to keep themselves and others safe in, on and around water.

The awards focus is on four main areas:
1. Water safety awareness
2. Getting in and out of water safely
3. Safely staying afloat
4. Safely moving in water
