Meet Nurse Mary – embodying the values of our clinic 💚

I first met Mary back in 2015 when I started working in the Outpatients Department at Daisy Hill Hospital. She was one of the first to welcome me, and her kindness and friendliness made a real difference as I settled into a new role.

Mary is a good friend of Nurse Elaine, and they share many of the same wonderful qualities — warmth, compassion, and a willingness to go the extra mile for patients. As the clinic grew, Mary kindly helped me out with a few shifts. And this year, I’ve been delighted that she’s taken on a regular role, working with us one day a week.

Mary lives in Camlough, so she’s not far from the clinic, and she brings a grounded, community feel to everything she does. She truly embodies our clinic values:

Meet Nurse Elaine – a cornerstone of our clinic 💚

I first met Elaine back in 2015, when I started working in the dermatology clinic at Daisy Hill Hospital. I was new, learning the ropes, and honestly a bit out of my depth. Elaine took me under her wing — she was kind, considerate, and looked after me as I found my way in a new role.

That first impression has stayed with me ever since. So when I opened Dr Finbar’s Skin Clinic, Elaine was the obvious first choice to join me. For the past 5 years she has been a huge part of our growth, welcoming patients with warmth and friendliness, and bringing that same kindness and professionalism to everything she does.

Increasingly, Elaine has taken on more responsibilities within the clinic:

✅ Nurse-led cryotherapy clinics
✅ Wound reviews and skin reviews

She does all of this with the same calm, caring approach that makes patients feel safe and supported.

Elaine’s background is just as fascinating. She grew up in South Armagh, in a family where music runs deep. Her father was a well-known musician on the Irish showband circuit, Elaine herself is a talented multi-instrumentalist and performer, and her children are now successful recording artists. Music is something we’ve always had in common, and it’s a joy to share that connection too.

I’m so grateful to have Elaine as part of our team. She’s not just a fantastic nurse — she’s a friend, a steady presence, and someone I hope to work alongside for many years to come.

Early detection of skin cancer is really important.

This is a Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC). When we find them early, the surgery requires less skin to be removed and helps to minimise scarring.

As you can see, just three months after surgery the scar is barely visible. ✨

If you notice a sore that keeps bleeding, scabbing, or won’t heal, it’s always best to get it checked. The sooner we act, the better the outcome for your health and your skin.

Meet Garry McCabe – the person who keeps our clinic flowing!

Garry has been with us at Dr Finbar’s Skin Clinic for one year now, since we made the move to Camlough, and I honestly don’t know how we managed before he arrived. He is the kind of person who works quietly but makes an enormous difference every single day.

Garry’s background is fascinating. He studied archaeology, is widely read in geography and history, and even worked as a professional wine-tasting sommelier! Like me he loves his rock music and is regular gig- goer. He has a real passion for learning and knowledge. But beyond his wide-ranging skills, what makes Garry truly special is his kindness.

He goes out of his way to help our patients — finding the right doctor for them, getting them seen at the most appropriate time, and making sure everything runs smoothly. Before joining us, Garry spent many years leading the outpatient clinic at Daisy Hill Hospital, and that experience shines through in the way he keeps our clinic so well organised.

Garry is always responsive to communication, and he has a great way of keeping me right — if he thinks one of my ideas is a little too wacky, he reins me in and keeps everything moving in a practical way! He works brilliantly with the nurses and doctors alike, and we simply wouldn’t be able to do what we do without him.

I look forward to building our administrative team around Garry’s leadership as the clinic continues to grow.

Meet Dr Christine Glendinning. She’s outstanding!

Christine was the very first doctor to join me at Dr Finbar’s Skin Clinic almost 2 years ago — and she has been a fantastic asset ever since. It’s been a privilege to watch the clinic grow with Christine at my side, bringing her expertise, her kindness, and her commitment to every patient.

Christine graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2009 and became a GP in 2018. Her passion for dermatology led her to complete both a Professional Diploma in Dermatology and a Certificate in Dermoscopy, giving her specialist expertise in managing a wide range of skin conditions.

She has a particular interest in women’s and children’s dermatology — from acne, eczema, and psoriasis, to more sensitive conditions like lichen sclerosus and hidradenitis suppurativa. Patients often comment on her compassion and the way she listens, especially when dealing with difficult or personal issues.

Christine also brings a unique personal insight: as a mum of three, with one child affected by eczema, she knows how frustrating daily skincare routines can be and how important practical, realistic treatment plans are for families.

And of course, Christine is married to Alan, who joined our team more recently — making them a real GP dermatology duo!

I’m so grateful for Christine’s skill, dedication, and warmth. She’s not just a colleague but a cornerstone of our team, and our patients are lucky to have her.

Meet Dr Alan Glendinning. He’s fantastic!

I first met Alan around 10 years ago, not long after I returned from Australia. At the time, I was organising teaching events for GPs on skin lesion recognition and dermoscopy — and Alan stood out straight away. He was always extremely keen to learn more and passionate about early diagnosis.

Fast forward to today, and I’m delighted that Alan has joined our team at Dr Finbar’s Skin Clinic. For the past 3 months, he has been working alongside me helping diagnose skin cancers early — something that can make a life-changing difference for our patients.

Alan graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2007 and trained as a GP in 2012. Since then, he has become a GP partner in County Armagh, where he works in a busy NHS practice. Alongside this, he’s heavily involved in teaching and training the next generation of doctors, having completed a Masters in Clinical Education, as well as working as a GP Trainer, GP Appraiser, and urgent care GP.

His expertise in dermoscopy stretches back over 10 years, following his specialist training at Cardiff University. That experience, combined with his broad general practice background, makes him an exceptional addition to our clinic.

Outside of work, Alan is just as busy — a devoted dad, often seen taxiing his young family, but also finding time for the North Coast and for keeping fit at CrossFit.

I’m proud to call Alan a colleague and a friend. Having him on our team makes us stronger, and I know our patients will feel the benefit of his skill, experience, and kindness.

Today I’ve uploaded my 100th video to YouTube — this one’s all about Imiquimod cream, which I prescribe for certain early skin changes.

When I started, my goal was to help my patients understand their skin and get the best results from treatment.
Along the way, it’s also become a way to raise awareness about skin cancer — what to look out for, and what to do about it.

It’s not always easy (I love filming, but the editing.... 😅), but hitting this 100-video milestone feels like a moment to pause and feel proud.
