🌫️ Is Your Workplace at Risk from Hazardous Dust Exposure?
Dust is a hidden hazard across many industries — from construction and manufacturing to agriculture and food production. Materials like wood, silica, and metal dusts can cause serious health effects once airborne, including:
🔹 Occupational asthma
🔹 Dermatitis
🔹 Cancer (e.g. from respirable crystalline silica)
🔹 Pneumoconiosis
🔹 Systemic toxicity
⚠️ Employers have a legal duty to prevent or adequately control dust exposure — and in many cases, health surveillance is also required under HSE guidance.
🩺 Health surveillance is appropriate when:
• Dust exposure is linked to a known health risk
• A condition is reasonably likely to occur in the working environment
• Reliable, low-risk detection methods are available
✅ Regular health checks can help identify early signs of dust-related illness and ensure control measures are working.
✅ Employees should be encouraged to report symptoms and dust control issues.
