Meet the teacher: The amazing Grainne!
Early bird Grainne teaches her physio-led class at 6.15am every Friday morning.
Why did she become a Pilates teacher?
Grainne says, "With over 20 years' experience as a physiotherapist I was deeply aware of the link between Pilates and physiotherapy, as this was something I have used in the treatment and rehabilitation of my patients. Pilates and physiotherapy have a shared approach to 'teaching people to know their own bodies'. For me it’s so important to encourage people to simply 'move' as fear of movement is very detrimental to our overall health and wellbeing. Pilates is a form of movement suitable for everyone."
What move does she like to teach the most?
"Anything that’s challenging! But I do love short spine, and all those prone exercises that fire up the posterior chain..."
Why does she love teaching?
"I love to see people being proactive about their health, essentially practicing Pilates is a life-long self management tool and I’m all for that! I absolutely love the people that have walked through the doors of The Powerhouse studio since I started teaching. They are as encouraging to me as I hopefully am to them."
What are her areas of special interest?
"I am passionate about helping people to build a resilient spine and move freely without fear. I also like to encourage clients to maintain lifelong strength and functional fitness."
