On the night of 18 April 1926, Ireland counted itself! 📜

There were no digital systems, no online forms. Instead, thousands of enumerators travelled door to door across towns, villages and rural homesteads, collecting information household by household.

Each family completed a Form A, listing everyone who slept under that roof on census night. Names, ages, occupations, religion, Irish language ability, and relationships within the home were carefully recorded by hand.

In total, 2,971,992 people were counted... a detailed portrait of how Ireland lived, worked and spoke just fifteen years after the 1911 census.
