Yesterday in Newry the worldโs, โonly known physical symbol of mental health and su***de preventionโ, made its way through the City as part a full day event with PIPS Hope and Support.
Newry was the only NI stop on The Baton of Hope Tour, which will visit 20 locations across the UK during September and October 2025 with the aim of boosting the national conversation and eliminating the stigma around Su***de.
Lisa and Louise from Mourne Private Clinic were proud to support the Batonโs arrival in Newry, attending alongside health organisations, local charities and support groups.
Carried solely by survivors of and those bereaved by, su***de, as well as mental health advocates and community representatives, The Baton of Hope โ inspired by the Olympic torch โ serves as a powerful symbol, highlighting mental wellbeing and su***de prevention.
Founded by Mike McCarthy, The Baton of Hope charity mission is to challenge, โthe stigma surrounding su***de and mental health by bringing people together to share hope and supportโ.
Despite the damp weather, the streets were lined with local community, representatives from NMDD Council, Samaritans, Bolster Community, Womenโs Aid, Aware, Davinaโs Ark, Clanrye Group, Flare, Volunteer Now and more who applauded the Batonโs Final Procession through the City.
The โBaton of Hopeโ is a symbolic honouring of personal stories of resilience and loss, uniting all those affected by su***de, whilst creating momentum for Active Lobbying for Change in national guidelines, regulations, services and law.
