Since the world and its grannies (me included 🤪) have jumped on the Hyrox/TRYKA train, I’ve seen a HUGE rise in “Hyrox injuries” coming through my doors.
The two main culprits?
👉 Anterior knee pain
👉 Achilles tendon issues
Let’s break it down.
Hyrox is essentially an 8km+ running race with 8 stations thrown in for good measure. None of the stations are particularly brutal in isolation… but combine them with all that running and fatigue ramps up fast.
🦵 Anterior knee pain
This usually shows up during lunges and/or wall balls — when the legs are already goosed.
What I commonly find underneath? Limited hip rotational control. It often flies under the radar… until fatigue exposes it.
👟 Achilles issues
Most commonly caused by a rapid spike in running volume and/or intensity.
More miles + more intensity + not enough preparation = grumpy tendons.
Now don’t get me wrong — Hyrox is fantastic. It gives people structure, motivation and a goal to train for.
Is it for everyone? In my opinion… probably not straight off the bat (and that’s okay!).
🚨 The biggest mistake I see?
People ditch their strength work to squeeze in more conditioning, high-intensity sessions and running.
They get away with it… until they don’t.
And that’s usually when they land in my clinic.
Over the next few weeks, I’ll be sharing my key accessory exercises to support your strength work and help keep those frustrating niggles at bay.
