Pen Pals at Ashburton House 💌

We are delighted to have partnered with our local primary school to begin a wonderful pen pal project with our residents.

After receiving lovely letters from the children, our residents have been eagerly reading through them and writing their replies — and we think the smiles say it all.

This is such a meaningful way to build connections across generations, encouraging conversation, communication, and the joy of sharing stories and experiences. It is also a lovely opportunity to support the young pupils with their writing skills while helping to create new friendships and a real sense of community.

We look forward to seeing these special pen pal connections continue to grow.

A loving Mother’s Day 💐

We have enjoyed a lovely Mother’s Day here at Ashburton House, with plenty of beautiful cards, flowers, and thoughtful gestures shared throughout the home for our wonderful mums, grandmas, and special ladies.

The home looked lovely with all of the colourful decorations, and it was wonderful to see so many smiles as residents received flowers and enjoyed feeling celebrated on such a special day.

Mother’s Day is a time for love, appreciation, and reflection, and we were so pleased to mark the occasion by making our ladies feel extra special and cherished.

Happy Mother’s Day...

Mother’s Day is always a very special day in the calendar.

Today, we take time to celebrate and remember all the wonderful mums in our lives — those who are sadly no longer with us, those whose families may live far away, and those who are lucky enough to be welcoming loved ones through the door today.

For many, this day brings joy, reflection, love, and treasured memories. Whether sharing stories, looking through photographs, enjoying family visits, or simply taking a quiet moment to remember, we hold all mothers close in our hearts today.

✨ A Workout for Body and Mind....

This week at Ashburton House, we’ve been keeping active with a lovely mix of gentle stretching and fun ball games — a great way to support mobility, coordination and confidence, all while sharing plenty of smiles along the way. 🧡🏀

After our movement session, we swapped the physical workout for a mental one, getting stuck into a crossword puzzle and quiz as a group. Activities like these are brilliant for keeping minds engaged, encouraging conversation, and supporting memory and problem-solving skills — and it’s always lovely to see residents helping one another and cheering each other on. 🧠✅

It’s days like these that remind us how important it is to keep wellbeing holistic — moving, thinking, laughing, and connecting together. 💬🌟

Today, on International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating all the women who help make Ashburton House such a special place.

So many of the people who make life here warm, welcoming and meaningful are incredible women who bring kindness, dedication and professionalism to their work every single day.

Their compassion, patience and commitment make a real difference to the lives of our residents and their families. We’re so proud of the supportive team and community we’ve built together.

📚💛 A Wednesday tradition we already love...

Every Wednesday, we’re welcoming a wonderful group of primary school children into Ashburton House to spend time reading with our residents — and it’s quickly become a highlight of the week for everyone involved.

There’s something truly special about sharing stories together: the children gain confidence and fluency as they read aloud, and our residents enjoy the companionship, conversation, and the joy that young visitors bring into the home. 😊

And that’s not all… ✉️

We’re also starting a pen pal project, where the children and residents will write letters to one another in between visits. It’s a lovely way to keep the connection going — sharing memories, asking questions, swapping favourite books, and creating friendships across generations.

Why this is so beneficial:
For residents: meaningful social connection, boosts in mood, gentle mental stimulation, and wonderful opportunities to reminisce and share life stories.

For children: improved reading skills, stronger communication and writing confidence, and learning empathy, patience, and respect through real relationships.

We’re so proud to be building these intergenerational bonds, and we can’t wait to see these friendships grow week by week.

Hello March from Ashburton House!

With lighter evenings, warmer days on the way, and the first signs of spring starting to appear in our gardens, we’re very much looking forward to the new season here at Ashburton House.

There’s something so lovely about this time of year — watching the plants begin to grow, enjoying the brighter skies, and seeing the sunshine linger a little longer each day. 🌼

Can you guess what we’re getting ready for at Ashburton House?

With Valentine’s Day now behind us, we’re turning our hearts towards Mother’s Day — a special time to celebrate, remember, and reflect. 🌸

Our residents have been enjoying some lovely creative time together, colouring beautiful cards, making decorations, and sharing smiles as we prepare for the day. From bright flowers and heartfelt messages to handmade keepsakes, every little detail has been made with love. 💕

For many, this time brings happy memories of mums, nanas, and mother figures who are with us and also those who remain forever in our hearts. It’s a gentle and meaningful opportunity to share stories, laughter, and quiet moments of remembrance together.

At Ashburton House, we know love doesn’t end — it lives on in memories, in traditions, and in the little things we do to honour the people who mean so much to us.

🎶🎈 Music, laughter and a lot of fun...

Our residents had a fantastic time with our regular musician this week, who really got everyone into the groove! From singing along and dancing to plenty of smiles and laughter, it was such a lovely session for all.

The inflatables were a big hit too — adding a playful touch and lots of fun to the afternoon! It was wonderful to see everyone joining in, enjoying the music, and sharing such moments together.

🌿✨ A calm and cosy Wednesday at Ashburton House...

After all the fun of pancake flipping and delicious treats on Shrove Tuesday, yesterday was all about slowing the pace and enjoying a relaxed, leisurely day here at Ashburton House. 💛

Residents have been spending time doing the things they enjoy most — from a quiet moment with a book, to a friendly game of dominoes, and of course a little bit of well-deserved pampering with freshly painted nails.

These gentle days are just as special, giving everyone the chance to unwind, socialise, and enjoy the warm, homely atmosphere that makes Ashburton so lovely.
