A busy and enjoyable day at Ashburton House, with residents taking part in games, puzzles, word searches and a little pampering too.

The card games brought plenty of concentration and friendly competition, while the puzzles and word searches gave residents the chance to enjoy some quieter one-to-one time with support from the team.

We also had some lovely pink glitter nails on show, adding a bright and cheerful touch to the day.

These everyday activities are such an important part of life at Ashburton House. They help keep minds active, encourage social time and give residents meaningful moments that are shaped around their own interests and choices. 💗

At Ashburton House, we believe meaningful activities should be shaped around each person’s life, memories and experiences.

Richard, who used to work as a bank manager, has been spending time counting and sorting money as part of his personalised wellbeing plan. For Richard, this is more than just an activity — it connects with a familiar part of his life and gives him the chance to engage in something that feels natural and purposeful.

Living with dementia can make everyday situations feel confusing, so finding activities that bring comfort, recognition and a sense of routine is really important. This is a lovely example of the person-centred approach we take at Ashburton House, where we get to know each resident as an individual and build care and activities around what matters to them.

What a beautiful afternoon we had at this week, filled with music, movement, laughter and so many happy faces.

We were delighted to welcome back one of our regular performers, who once again brought such warmth and energy into the home. There is something very special about live music — it has a way of lifting the room, bringing people together and encouraging everyone to join in in their own way.

Some residents sang along with the microphones, others clapped, danced, waved their hands in the air or simply sat back with a smile and enjoyed the atmosphere. It was lovely to see so many residents engaging with the music, sharing the moment with one another and enjoying the sunshine coming through the windows.

These photos really capture the joy of the afternoon — from big smiles and raised hands to a few brilliant dance moves and plenty of singing. Activities like this are not just entertainment; they play an important part in wellbeing, confidence, connection and creating moments that feel meaningful.

🎶 Singing in the Sunshine... ☀️

We made the most of the beautiful weather here at Ashburton House with a lovely afternoon of live music and singing.

Residents gathered in the lounge to enjoy a fantastic performance, with familiar songs filling the room and plenty of smiles all around. Some joined in with a singalong, while others sat back, relaxed and enjoyed the music in the sunshine streaming through the windows.

A big thank you to our wonderful performer for creating such a special atmosphere for our residents. 💛

It’s been a lovely, relaxed few days here at Ashburton House, with plenty of opportunities for residents to enjoy some quieter activities.

From crosswords and colouring to writing letters to our pen pals, there’s been a real sense of focus and enjoyment around the home. The pen pal project continues to be a particular highlight – residents take great pride in reading their letters and writing thoughtful replies, often sharing stories from their younger years along the way.

It’s a wonderful way to keep minds active, encourage creativity, and most importantly, create meaningful connections across generations. We’re already looking forward to the next letters arriving. 💌

A lovely day filled with good food, great company and a bit of music to top it all off 🎶🍕

Our residents got hands-on making their own pizzas – from spreading the sauce to choosing their favourite toppings. There were plenty of opinions on what makes the “perfect” pizza, and even more smiles seeing them come together.

Once the cooking was done, we were treated to a fantastic live performance, with plenty of toe-tapping, singing along and shared memories sparked by the music.

There’s always something going on at Ashburton House 🧩

From a competitive game of dominos (with a few cheeky rule debates thrown in!) to quietly working through puzzles and crosswords together, it’s these everyday moments that really make our home what it is.

Some enjoy the challenge, others enjoy the chat – and most enjoy a bit of both. There’s plenty of laughter, teamwork, and the occasional “I’ve got it!” moment when the final piece slots into place.

It’s lovely to see residents spending time together, sharing skills, helping one another, and just enjoying good company.

There’s nothing quite like a taste of summer at Ashburton House ☀️🍹

Our residents recenlty enjoyed a wonderful afternoon filled with refreshing cocktails, colourful fruit garnishes, and some classic ice lollies – the perfect way to soak up the sunshine and relax together.

We can't wait for more summer warmth to really get outside and make great use of the beautiful garden and views we have here.

🎉 Birthday Celebrations at Ashburton House 🎉

This week we had the pleasure of celebrating Richard’s birthday with a truly special day.

Residents and staff came together to mark the occasion with delicious cakes, thoughtful cards, and plenty of smiles all around. It was wonderful to see everyone joining in to make Richard feel celebrated and appreciated.

What a wonderful Easter Party! 🐣🌸

It was a lovely day filled with smiles, treats, Easter surprises and plenty of community spirit. From delicious homemade cakes and colourful cupcakes to raffles, gifts and special Easter goodies for our residents, there was such a warm and happy atmosphere throughout the home.

We are also delighted to share that an incredible £295 was raised for the residents’ fund, which will go towards future activities and special moments for everyone here at Ashburton House.

A very special thank you to Frankie and Karen for organising such a fantastic event, and thank you as well to everyone who helped, took part and joined in. It was wonderful to see everyone coming together and making the day so special.

Days like this mean so much, and we all had a truly lovely time. 💛
