HOW TO DO SHADOW WORK
1) Identify Triggers – pay attention to situations people or emotions that trigger strong reactions with in you. These triggers can point to hidden aspects of your shadow that have gone un-observed or denied.
2) Journaling and reflection – Write down your thoughts and feelings about these triggers. Explore the emotions, memories and beliefs that may arise.
3) Explore your projections – Recognise how you might be projecting your own shadow onto others. Examine the traits you dislike in others and consider if they exist in you.
4) Practise self-compassion – Be kind and accepting to yourself as you explore your shadow. Avoid judgement and shame and focus on understanding and integrating these parts of yourself.
5) Seek guidance – Shadow/inner work can be challenging. Consider working with a therapist, councillor, or spiritual guide who is experienced in this work.
6) Integrate your shadow – The ultimate goal of inner shadow work is to integrate these hidden aspects into your conscious self. This means accepting them as part of you, rather than trying to supress or deny them.
Shadow inner work is a journey, not a destination. It is an ongoing process of self-discovery and growth, which can lead to profound personal transformation.
