One of the most common things I hear from those wanting to do their Pilates OR Yoga Teacher Training is โฆ..
โWhat if I canโt remember the muscles or names of the exercisesโ
We all have those little gremlins sitting on our shoulders saying what if this and what if that. ๐บ
You love how pilates or yoga has helped you in your own life and you want to make sure that if youโre going to do this โ youโre not going to make a fool of yourself.
And youโre serious about your training and want to make sure that you get the most out of it โ but you are still really worried about all the names and body parts! ๐ฆด
You must remember that you arenโt going to be assessed on whether or not you know the anatomy and the names of the exercises like a parrot.
Youโre going to be assessed on how you teach them!
On our Teacher Training courses, one thing that we encourage our teachers to do (and in fact you can even start to do this now too) is to go to as many different classes and teachers as possible.
People have different teaching styles and youโll mould into your own style too.
For example.
Paul who is my partner in life and business (isnโt he a lucky man!) teaches using a lot of anatomy and explanations BUT that is Paulโs background. He has studied anatomy for nearly 20 years and itโs his passion.
***(Itโs so wonderful because Paul actually teaches all the anatomy on our course and we go way more in-depth training, which not many training providers can offer!)***
Even though I love that Paul can teach this to our students, itโs not my passion when I teach! I love to teach more with feeling eg โcan you feel this or can you feel thatโ.
I do occasionally refer to muscles, but I use lamens terms. Bum, leg, calf etc rather than the scientific name, as some peopleโs eyes just glaze over and they have no idea what youโre talking about.
Some people prefer Paulโs class and some people prefer my class. You will attract a certain person to your class.
And if all else fails โ Paul makes names up that resonate with him for example JACKNIFE he calls KNICKERS ON KNICKERS OFF, which normally gets the ladies giggling!
Youโll develop your own style of teaching and people will come to your classes because of how you make them feel so cared for and looked after in your class, not your ability to remember the names of the exercises.
I hope that helps to ease any fears you might have about doing your teacher training. The fact that you actually have these fears just goes to show that you do really care about becoming a teacher so donโt let the fears get in the way of something you really want to do!
If this is really resonating with you send me a message and let me know whatโs stopping you from doing your teacher training!
Lots of love

I remember about 5 years ago I went through a period of not wanting to teach at all.
I questioned whether or not I was actually making an impact on anyoneโs life.
This happens to teachers all the time and only recently I saw this is another group.....
All teachers go through this when theyโre not being recognised or told how much theyโre helping.
This is why testimonials from your clients are so important !
Not just to use as part of your marketing, but also to help you realise just how much you can and do help people.

"I can actually keep up with my grandchildren"
"Iโm not in pain anymore and I can actually dress myself"
"I donโt suffer with a bad back anymore"
"Iโve come off all my medication"
"Iโve stopped my anxiety/depression meds"
These are only a few of the things that I hear on a regular basisโฆ
BUT โฆ
I wanted to introduce you to someone who I helped and just made being a teacher so awesomeโฆ
A little bit of background firstโฆ
When Linda started with me, she was in an awful amount of pain after several operations on one foot.
I know Pilates is great, but it wasnโt going to be helping with the issues that Linda hadโฆ..
BUTโฆโฆ
Linda opted to have an amputation and it took about 6 months for Linda to get back to the class, less one foot.
It is amazing what a positive mindset and a sense of humour can do to the healing process.
Her doctors were amazed at how quickly she recovered from the surgery and she was soon ready to start with learning to walk again.
I had no experience working with someone who had just had an amputation so it was a big learning curve for me, but I was honest and said to her that we can figure it out together.
She already trusted me as a teacher and it was absolutely fascinating how getting your foot chopped off affects the rest of the body so much, and how everything in the body is truly connected.
I donโt teach Linda anymore as Iโm not in Plymouth, however, I passed her onto one of our teachers who qualified with us so that I know Linda will continue to get excellent care and service.
Linda still pops up to the studio for some reformer sessions every now and again and is game for anything and works really hard.
She had to learn how to use some of the muscles again and we really targeted certain areas to help build strength and stability in the amputated side. The stronger and more stable the glutes and hamstrings could be the better sheโd be able to walk.
One of the consultants she went to see prior to her surgery told her sheโd never walk again and really tried to discourage her from having the operation, but Linda is one determined cookie...
The photos were 7 months after her surgery. She was determined to walk into his office and prove him wrong!
Soโฆโฆ.
You still think that the impact Pilates & Yoga teachers can have isnโt much???
Linda is an incredible woman and I was lucky to share that experience with her. It made me a better teacher and taught me so much about how important having a positive mindset is to help heal the body!!!!!
There are people out there needing teachers like you to help them make their lives better in one way or anotherโฆ..
