Kay Cady Alexander Technique

Kay Cady Alexander Technique Kay Cady teaches the Alexander Technique from her studio in South Devon. Learning the Technique prom Alexander Technique is all about looking after your 'Self'.

Your Self comprises your mind, body and spirit, which has subconsciously created habitual patterns of behaviour that have affected and interfered with how you function in life. Over time these habits become magnified, particularly if you spend more time looking after your others than looking after yourself. It is never too late to learn the Technique: a young child can learn how to prevent potenti

ally harmful behavioural habits and as you get older, learning the Technique can help overcome harmful habits. enabling a better quality of life

Joy of Movement - Body Mapping
Rediscover how your body moves, use joints designed for movement and awaken muscles that are dormant; all the muscles in the body need to engage in movement, yet we seem to overuse and strain ourselves, by just engaging superficial muscle. We bend and move the back unnecessarily when we should be using joints designed to bend. In time our body starts to complain. Movements are habitual, we have changed our innate ability to move well as we did as a child, allowing ourselves to copy others and be distracted by the stimulus of life. Knowledge is Power. Discover how you are functioning in life and learn how to change behaviour to become more comfortable in your body, more efficient in activity and unleash more energy.

In the coming months I am organising a series of individual ‘Joy of Movement’ workshops offering Smart Yoga underpinned by Alexander Technique. 'Body Mapping' is the first in the series.
Group size will be limited to five people, so that I can give each person individual attention. This will not be fast moving flow yoga, but more a way of discovering how your body moves and which movements will help you as an individual. Most importantly, you will learn what not to pursue at this moment in time if it is not working for you; we are all different, our bone structures and flexibility differ hugely from one person to another.
The classes will be experimental, I will adapt activities to meet your individual needs and we will observe and learn from each other. There will be discussion. The moves will help you to become stronger and more flexible and we will apply them to activities in your everyday movement, whether it is loading a dishwasher or digging the garden.

Feeling chilly and look forward to the warmer weather! It's always helpful to have something to look forward to!
Why not book a place on an Alexander Technique Retreat which is being held in the spectacular setting of Dartmoor National park in June this year!

Walking on Dartmoor may not be as challenging as you thought! Learn how to negotiate your route on uneven ground. Improve your confidence, balance and stability. Walk with others who are like minded, supportive and there to have fun!

Fear of falling, is not limited to the elderly. Learning how to move differently by waking up muscles that have been neglected, can help you to trust yourself, and feel younger , stronger and more energised.

Join us on this 3 day retreat of self discovery and find out fhow Learning Alexander Technique can help you!

Feedback from the 2023 retreat: "We worked well today, we walked across those rocks, we all worked out how to, we took different routes to each other. We worked out whether that rock that we stood on was stable and whether it was safe to move to the other foot, we worked out whether we were balanced or whether we needed to rethink the plan. We learned to let go of unnecessary tension which would have thrown us off balance. There were no written rules. "

Learning Alexander Technique provides us with an underpinning knowledge and understanding of how our body moves, and from that we can adapt our plan to suit the situation"
