The therapists have extensive knowledge into conditions of DCD, Dyspraxia, ADHD, and Sensory Processing Disorders. Post graduate training in Sensory Integration has allowed us to introduce this specialised treatment to children on a daily basis to develop their underlying difficulties. We also have a private sensory parent support group which you are more than welcome to join.

Great games to help improve your child's fine motor skills!

βœ‹ Lego
βœ‹ Play-doh
βœ‹ Board games
βœ‹ Art activities
βœ‹ Hanging clothing on the clothes line

The above all involve precise movements with small objects and also aid hand-eye coordination, finger isolation and grip strength.

Have a go at Fizzwig's Sunday challenge!

Remember though, scissor skills takes time for our children to develop and it is best to make it fun. It is a very complicated activity. It requires a child to:

βœ‚ Hold the scissors open and close them
βœ‚ Sit in a good but comfortable position
βœ‚ Be able to move the paper whilst holding it

There are many different ways to practice cutting up such as foil, play dough. These also give your child more time to explore textures which is a great way to aid their sensory play.

Red flags of Visual Tracking πŸ‘€

Visual problems can present in many different ways (as seen in our flyer).

To help this area, here are some tips for you:

πŸ‘€ Ball games (use a target)
πŸ‘€ Puzzles
πŸ‘€ Flashlights (tracking the light)
πŸ‘€ Dot to dots
πŸ‘€ Tracing activities
πŸ‘€ Practice reading with a finger as a guide for the eyes
πŸ‘€ I Spy
πŸ‘€ Marble runs
πŸ‘€ Complete letter, word, or hidden picture puzzles such as Where's Wally

By conducting any of the above regularly, this will help your child's visual tracking skills!

Auditory processing difficulties does not mean your child has a hearing problem. It actually means a difficulty in processing auditory sensory input ie problems making sense of sounds rather than physically being able to hear sounds. A hearing test cannot pick up auditory processing difficulties. πŸ‘‚

In one of our sessions, Tree Tops went underwater for an ocean theme! This was for a Tree Topper who loves sea creatures.

The theme helped him to engage wholly in the session. Activities were aimed to develop:

🐳 Posture
🐳 Body awareness
🐳 Motor planning
🐳 Fine motor skills

and not to forget....visual closure skills by completing the fish by joining the dots! 🐳

We then started to blow the fish to the shark which is a great way of reducing oral seeking behaviours!

Our Story

Tree Tops has been developed with great foundations in the knowledge of assessment and treatment techniques of children and adults. Our therapists have extensive knowledge into conditions such as DCD, Dyspraxia, ADHD, Attachment Disorder, and Sensory Processing Difficulties. Post graduate training in Sensory Integration has allowed us to introduce this specialised treatment to children and adults on a daily basis to develop their underlying difficulties.

Tree Tops work with many schools, charities and voluntary organisations. We can provide valuable training and programmes which helps with gross/fine motor skills, handwriting, building self-esteem, confidence, behaviour and perception.

Fizzwig (our mascot) and the Tree Topper teddy bears are a vital part of our organisation and go on many adventures with the children or help them with their programmes. Check out our website to see what they all get up to!

We also have a private sensory parent support group which you are more than welcome to join. Here is the link:- https://www.facebook.com/groups/spdpsg/ . A youth group has also been set up which is run through a secret page. If you would like more information please email our office.
