Our Red Flags post this week is all about interoception. ๐
Interoception is important for our body's internal sense (signals). It helps us to identify how we feel., responding consciously or unconsciously to these signals. It disrupts the vital feedback between the brain and body which makes it harder to understand our needs and feelings from emotional wellbeing to surviving day to day.

Our tip of the week is all about scissor skills โ
Scissor skills are really important for our children. They develop essential fine motor skills, hand-eye, bilateral integration and strengthening hand muscles.
We use our hand muscles for daily tasks such as dressing, handwriting and eating.
Does your child struggle with their scissor skills? ๐ค

Tree Topper of the Month for the month of January 2026 ๐
No matter how small, every little step counts. It could be the smallest of things such as learning to swim, ride a bicycle, fastening a button/zip or shoelaces, managed to do your homework, hop, skip, tidy up....anything but we want to know.
Each child entered will receive a certificate because every child is a winner in our eyes. The Tree Tops Team want to recognise all our children's achievements and boost their self-esteem. It is incredibly important to do so. If you want your child to remain anonymous, that is absolutely fine too, just let us know.
The winner will be crowned 'Tree Topper of the Month' and added to our special board in Reception.
Now get posting or messaging or email and we will be in touch! You'll be our very first 2026 winner ๐
PS Your child can remain anonymous if you wish ๐คซ

Did you know that we offer Developmental Sensory Assessments for young children and those with complex needs?
One of our trained therapists will work with your child within the clinic space to make clinical observations of their fine and gross motor skills, as well as their response to sensory input. This will help to identify your child's strengths and areas of weakness which may be impacting on their development and behaviour. The activities will have an informal play-based approach using a range of equipment. Most importantly, we want to make sure your child feels safe and is having fun.
We have availability for February and March so please contact us for more information. ๐

Today's fine motor skills crafts are all about the dinosaurs which a lot of children love.
These particular crafts are great for cutting skills due to the zig-zags of the dinosaurs body.
Have fun!

Tree Tops has been developed with great foundations in the knowledge of assessment and treatment techniques of children and adults. Our therapists have extensive knowledge into conditions such as DCD, Dyspraxia, ADHD, Attachment Disorder, and Sensory Processing Difficulties. Post graduate training in Sensory Integration has allowed us to introduce this specialised treatment to children and adults on a daily basis to develop their underlying difficulties.
Tree Tops work with many schools, charities and voluntary organisations. We can provide valuable training and programmes which helps with gross/fine motor skills, handwriting, building self-esteem, confidence, behaviour and perception.
Fizzwig (our mascot) and the Tree Topper teddy bears are a vital part of our organisation and go on many adventures with the children or help them with their programmes. Check out our website to see what they all get up to!
We also have a private sensory parent support group which you are more than welcome to join. Here is the link:- https://www.facebook.com/groups/spdpsg/ . A youth group has also been set up which is run through a secret page. If you would like more information please email our office.
Tree Tops are proud to make a difference to the ability to achieve, happiness and well-being of our children experiencing motor and sensory difficulties. The reviews and testimonials we have received ensure we continue with the service we are passionate about.
In 2019 we were asked to take part in the The Parliamentary Review. The aims of this are to share best practice amongst policymakers/business leaders, commissioning articles on events of the year and contributorsโ areas of expertise. Over 1m copies will be distributed. A range of businesses from several sectors have written for this; the aim being to get their message out to the country at large, to inform policymakers, assist their peers, and ultimately raise standards.
Tree Tops has contributed to the 2019 Parliamentary Review and celebrated the publication at a Gala event in the Houses of Parliament on the 4/9/19. Our article focused on understanding sensory processing difficulties (SPD), in particular the many difficulties our children experience in education from academically under-performing to anxiety/potentially exclusions. The article strives to explain how sensory processing difficulties can result in challenging behaviours and affect a childโs social/emotional well-being. Our message was to stress how effective our interventions can be within the school environment to help children access learning, but give school staff more tools to target many youngsterโs complex needs. Tree Tops endeavours to educate schools to understand SPD and integrate interventions into the classroom routine. We firmly believe if Head Teachers understood that by working in partnership with Tree Tops all children would have more chance of success whilst reducing resources needed to support them in the long term.
