Weight loss injections on the NHS (Mounjaro)
We know many of our patients are asking about Mounjaro (Tirzepatide), launched on 23rd June.
It is important to understand GP practices, including ours, are not yet able to prescribe it and that there are strict eligibility criteria.
Please do not call at this time to request Mounjaro, or any appointments related to requesting weight loss injections, if you do not meet the criteria.
We will contact patients directly in the next few weeks who are eligible by text or by letter asking if they are interested in the medication.

Monday 23rd June to 29th June

Love Your Lungs Week is an annual event dedicated to raising awareness about lung health and encouraging everyone to take better care of their respiratory system. Whether you’re living with a lung condition or simply looking to improve your overall well-being, this week offers valuable information, support, and inspiration to help you breathe easier.

Why is Love Your Lungs Week Important?
Lung health is vital for a happy, active life, yet many people overlook its importance until problems arise. Love Your Lungs Week shines a spotlight on common issues such as asthma, COPD, and the effects of air pollution. By raising public awareness, the event aims to reduce stigma, encourage early diagnosis, and promote preventive measures that can save lives. This week also supports ongoing research and advocacy to improve care and outcomes for those living with lung conditions.

Loneliness campaign 9th June - 15th June

Loneliness can feel like a tricky topic to broach. Most commonly when we think of a lonely person we imagine someone who is old and sad, when in real life that is often not the case. We can feel both happy and lonely, we can be young and feel lonely, we can hold down a full-time job and/or have a family and friends and feel lonely. Often we don’t want to say anything for fear of embarrassing ourselves or other people. In a wider context, we can unintentionally stigmatise loneliness even further by the way we talk about it.

Avoid negative words
As well as talking about loneliness, it’s important how we talk about it. Loneliness is often described in medicalised terms as an ‘epidemic’ and something we’re at risk of catching. We say that someone is ‘suffering’ from loneliness, or that loneliness is something we ‘admit’ to having. The truth is that there’s nothing wrong or shameful about loneliness. It’s best to use neutral or positive language to describe it instead.

30/05/2025

As you may be aware since April last year (2024) anyone in our region experiencing a mental health crisis can now access 24/7 support by calling NHS 111 and selecting option 2 for the mental health team.

The service is still provided by our mental health trusts but means that there is now one nationally recognised number to call, rather than a range of freephone numbers.

Our trusts are Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) and Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust (CNTW).

Since the introduction of the NHS 111 select mental health option service, the existing freephone crisis numbers for both trusts have remained active during the transition period.

From 22 January 2025, calls to TEWV's 0800 number were no longer answered and callers would hear a message on the line advising them to call NHS 111 and select the mental health option for crisis support.

From 10am on Tuesday 3 June, calls to the Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) crisis line number (0800 0516 171) will no longer be accepted.

Lots of work has already been done to raise awareness of these changes and to advise people to use 111.
