Pain is something that we all experience at sometime.
But did you know that 35 to 50% of adults in the UK are affected by persistent, ongoing or recurring pain?
Pain is one of the most common reasons that people will make an appointment to see a doctor or other healthcare professional.
But the very fact the so many people live with ongoing pain shows that it is generally not well treated by our healthcare system.
This is because pain tends to be thought of as a physical problem which needs a physical treatment such as medication or manipulation etc.
But the fact is that pain is never just a physical experience. It never just involves the body. All pain originates in the brain and all pain is influenced by what I like to call the background. So pain is 3D – it always involves the brain and the background and (usually) the body!

So only looking and targeting the physical or body aspect of the pain means the brain and the background are not considered which means the pain isn’t going to be resolved…hence the reason 35 to 50% of adults are left to put up with ongoing pain! This includes things like back pain, headaches, abdominal pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, chronic regional pain syndrome as well as widespread pain such as fibromyalgia and functional painful conditions.

But if we look instead at the 3 dimensions of pain we can often get rid of it rather than pop another pill, push on through and accept that this is it.

As a Chartered Physiotherapist with additional training in Pain Reprocessing Therapy I take a 3D brain, body and background approach to helping people overcome and move on from persistent or recurrent pain.

September is so why not get in touch and take that first step towards a life without ongoing or recurrent pain?

Walking is something we mostly take for granted. From before the age of 2 most of us are up on our feet and from then on we don’t tend to give it much thought.

So it isn’t surprising that when someone starts having difficulties walking that it has a massive impact on their wellbeing.

Reduced mobility or difficulty with walking is one of the most common reasons someone will get in touch and ask for our advice.

Whether it is difficulty getting up from a chair and stepping around to sit in a wheelchair or walking from one room to another or finding getting out of the house a challenge or wanting to walk a bit further when out and about…….We can help!

Get in touch to find out about our home visiting service across East Renfrewshire and East Kilbride.

We are excited to announce that in addition to our busy home visit service we are now taking bookings for our rehabilitation room at Kirkhill House Office Park.

While home is often the best place for many of our clients to work with us, for others the opportunity to access specialist equipment and undertake part or all of their physiotherapy appointments out with the home is more beneficial.

The Motomed exercise machine for example allows supported movement for the arms and legs. It recognises how much force the person is putting in and adapts the amount of assistance it gives accordingly. It can do all the work for someone who is unable to move a limb(s) at all. It can even detect if a muscle is going into spasm and changes the movement to reduce this. The Motomed is particularly useful for people who have had a stroke, those with MS or Parkinsons Disease, after a spinal cord injury as well as many other conditions limiting movement.

Having access to parallel bars allows clients to practice their standing balance and return to walking in a safe environment. The security of working within the stability of the parallel bars can give people the confidence to get back on their feet when they may otherwise feel too unsteady to try.

Kirkhill Office Park offers ample parking within lovely grounds. Our building has ramped access and accessible toilet facilities.

If you would like to find out more about how our Specialist Physiotherapy service can help don’t hesitate to get in touch, we’d be delighted to hear from you!
