πŸŽ‰ Double Birthday Celebrations at Mearns House πŸŽ‰

We recently had the pleasure of celebrating a very special double birthday here at Mearns House

A huge Happy 80th Birthday to Evie, and a wonderful Happy 87th Birthday to Catherine 🎈

It was a truly memorable day as residents, colleagues, friends and family came together to mark the occasion. From live entertainment and singing in the garden to delicious refreshments and plenty of laughter, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

With the sunshine adding an extra sparkle, the day was filled with joyful moments, music, dancing and shared smiles

Moments like these remind us how special it is to come together and celebrate the people who make our community so wonderful πŸ’™

Wishing Evie and Catherine a fantastic year ahead filled with happiness and good health!

A simple idea from oor wee care home in Newton Mearns has made it onto Clyde 1 Radio.

And honestly, it is easy to see why. ✨

At Mearns House Care Home, residents have their very own Wishing Tree. The idea is simple. Residents share a wish. The team listens. And wherever possible, they help make it happen.

It might be revisiting a favourite pastime.
Going somewhere meaningful.
Enjoying a special experience.
Or doing something that brings back memories, confidence and joy.

Small on paper.
Huge in real life.

Because every wish tells you something about the person behind it. Their story. Their interests. Their memories. The things that still matter to them. That is why it was so lovely to hear the Wishing Tree shared on Clyde 1 Radio, shining a light on the brilliant work happening at Mearns House and the colleagues who help bring these moments to life.

This is what meaningful activity should feel like.
Not just filling time.
Not just keeping busy.
Not just something added to a calendar.

But creating moments that feel personal, thoughtful and genuinely connected to the people who live in our homes. A huge well done to the team at Mearns House. You are making wishes happen - and now people are hearing about it too. πŸ’š

A huge thank you to Gill, who was absolutely fantastic and took the time to show everyone around. The ladies loved meeting a variety of beautiful horses, stroking them, holding them, and even feeding them πŸ₯•

Experiences like this bring so much joy, and both Elaine and Diane shared how amazing the afternoon was. It was a lovely outing enjoyed by everyone involved ✨

🌳✨ Wishing Tree Dreams Come True ✨🌳

Isabel had always dreamed of visiting Benidorm after falling in love with the show over the years, and with the support of her wonderful family, that dream became a reality

She enjoyed a fantastic week in the sunshine, even staying at the famous Sol Pelicanos Ocas, the hotel where the show was filmed, making her trip extra special 🎬🌴

Spending precious time with her daughters and grandchildren, Isabel created memories full of laughter, love, and joy. While others enjoyed sangria, Isabel was happiest with a nice cold beer in hand

Moments like these remind us just how important it is to make dreams come true, no matter how big or small

πŸ’™ Celebrating Our Amazing Colleague, Kapeya πŸ’™

We are incredibly proud to shine a spotlight on our wonderful colleague, Kapeya

Kapeya joined us in Scotland from Zambia in January 2023, bringing with her a wealth of experience, determination, and a genuine passion for care. Starting her journey as a carer at Mearns House, she quickly made a positive impact through her dedication, kindness, and uplifting attitude every single day πŸ’«

Through hard work and commitment, Kapeya achieved her Nursing PIN in March 2025 and was proudly promoted to Nurse in August 2025, a truly fantastic achievement that reflects her drive and professionalism

Not long after arriving, Kapeya was reunited with her husband and children, who are now happily building their life here in Scotland 🏑

Kapeya is kind, caring, and compassionate, and she has built meaningful relationships with both residents and colleagues alike. She brings warmth and positivity to everything she does, and we are so grateful to have her as part of our team πŸ’™

Thank you, Kapeya, for the difference you make every day 🌟

β›³ A Lovely Afternoon at Mearns House β›³

Our wonderful Bob recently enjoyed some special one-to-one time with the activities team out in the garden, making the most of the beautiful sunshine

Golf has always been one of Bob’s favourite pastimes, and it was fantastic to see him practising his putting once again. He was a keen golfer and a proud member of the Mearns Castle Golf Society, playing with an impressive handicap of 9, what an achievement! πŸ‘

It was truly heartwarming to see Bob reminiscing and enjoying being back on the green. Moments like these mean so much and highlight the importance of personalised activities and meaningful experiences for those we support

Well done to our brilliant colleagues for making this such a special moment πŸ’™

What does it actually mean to be a nurse?

Not the job description.
Not the uniform.
Not the β€œno two days are the same” line.

The real answer.

For International Nurses Day 2026, we sat down with nurses from across Meallmore and asked them a few simple questions about what nursing means to them.

Their answers said everything.

It’s compassion when someone needs reassurance.
It’s clinical skill when decisions matter.
It’s patience on the difficult days.
It’s leadership when a team needs guidance.
It’s knowing someone’s routine, their family, their worries, their sense of humour.

In care homes, nurses do so much more than deliver care.

They build trust.
They support families.
They lead teams.
They protect dignity.
They help make our homes feel like home.

So today, we’re proud to celebrate the incredible nurses across Meallmore who bring their knowledge, kindness and calm presence into our homes every single day.

A fitting tribute to an amazing profession - and to the people who show what nursing really means. πŸ’™

Happy International Nurses Day.
