DID YOU KNOW ..... Reflexology Helps Books Your Immune System???

Protection is always better than cure and the best way to keep flue, cold and infections away is by strengthening the body's natural defence mechanism - the immune system.

The immune system is made up of a network of cells, tissues and organs - the Tymus, Spleen, Bone Marrow and Lymphatic System - all of which work together to protect the body.

During your reflexology treatment all of these organs and systems are stimulated to help boos circulation and help them work optimally, thereby increasing their ability to protect the body better and more efficiently.

An important facto to consider when talking about the immune system is STRESS! Stress plays a part in our immune function and is related to each and every aspect of our modern day lifestyle.

Reflexology reduces stress and tension throughout the body's 7 systems to improve blood and lymph circulation and release toxins from the body's tissues. It encourages the release of our "happy" hormones - endorphins - the body's natural feel-good hormones which help to relieve stress

HEADACHES :(

It is estimated that more than 10 million people in the UK suffer with headaches. The brain itself has no pain receptions and therefore it cannot feel pain- the pain we experience as a headache comes from the structures that surround the brain like muscles, arteries, veins and nerves, which become inflamed or irritated. Generally headaches are thought to be either primary or secondary. If the headache is the main symptom you suffer from a primary headache - secondary headaches would be if you have a cold, flu or temperature.

The most common headache experienced is a tension headache (primary). These occur because physical or emotional stress in the body triggers pain and is due to the way both body tightens the muscles and nerves when we feel stress, restricting blood flow, causing irritation and inflammation and resulting in a headache.

Headache Treatment - The Reflexology Way!

There are over 7,000 nerve endings on the sole of each foot that correspond to all areas, organs and systems in the human body. The toes contain the nerve endings for the head and by using different pressure techniques, Reflexology stimulates these nerve endings, releasing blocked energy, increasing circulation, relaxing muscles and bring about relaxing and healing.

The big toe is the starting point in treating headaches and often sore areas are found on the toes or on the base of the joint where they join the rest of the foot. Directly under the big toe is the neck reflex and under the small toe is the shoulder reflex

In cases of headaches, reflexology aims to release any muscle tension in the head, neck, shoulder and spine, enhance circulation to all areas of the body, especially the spine, neck, shoulder and head and to reduce stress and tension, which is often responsible for many headaches - and to improve nerve function.

Hi There! My name is Clare and I am a fully qualified, fully insured Reflexologist and I am also a member of The Federation Of Holistic Therapists (my governing body). I provide both foot and hand reflexology which are a non-invasive complementary health therapy that are effective in promoting deep relaxation and wellbeing; by reducing stress in client's lives can be key in optimising good health and building resilience. It is a touch therapy that is based on the theory that different points on the feet, lower leg, hands, face or ears correspond with different areas of the body and as a Reflexologist I work these points and areas.

There is no doubt that Reflexology provides a period of time for relaxation where the client has one to one attention and supportive touch in an empathetic listening environment. Reflexology can be used safely alongside standard healthcare to promote better health for their clients.

Reflexology is a therapy which can be received by anyone at any age, from newborn babies to those receiving end of life care, and everyone in between. However, there may occasionally be times when it is not suitable to provide a treatment. The best advice I can give you is to contact me and ask! Please note: reflexology should not be used as an alternative to seeking medical advice.

Treatments with me range from £15 for Hand Reflexology to £25 for Foot Reflexology - if interested, please contact me a clare.robson@aol.com or through my page Reflexions. Hope to hear from you soon

AFTERCARE! ...

Following a reflexology treatment, it is important for clients to:

Drink plenty of water
Get plenty of rest
Listen to what your body is telling you
Eat a light meal

What Is Happening To Your Body Following Reflexology:

The body is trying to heal itself ie re-balance.

Toxins are released from the tissues into the lymphatic system and blood circulation.

Cell renewal is accelerated.

Pain killing 'endorphins' are released in sore areas of the body.

Toxins are released through the other elimination channels of the body ie skin, respiration, kidneys bowels - hence the importance of drinking plenty of water to help the elimination process.

Reaction During And After Reflexology Treatment.

DURING - sighing, discomfort on points of foot or body, tenderness, sweating, stomach gurgling, thirsty ...

AFTER - Thirsty, passing more urine than normal, more frequent bowel movements, feeling tired, relaxed and chilled out ...

There are many reactions associated with reflexology treatments and everyone experiences them differently with each treatment and it is different with each client. Reactions are very normal and show that toxins are being expelled from the body in order that it can restore, rebalance and cleanse itself.

Treatment Intervals

Clients should not have reflexology treatments for at least 3 days following treatment with once a week, once fortnightly, once every three weeks or every month is recommended.

On the first day following treatment the client may feel tired as the body attempts to eliminate toxins from the body. One the second day, the client feels good and the body begins to recover and rebalance and on the third day is the earliest that a further treatment is recommended.

AFTERCARE! AFTERCARE! AFTERCARE! .....

I honestly cannot stress enough the importance it is for clients receiving reflexology treatments to follow their aftercare advice. I can honestly see such a difference between the health benefits that my clients receive when following the aftercare advice compared to those who don't. Whilst reflexology is a wonderful relaxing treatment, the aftercare followed by you at home, adds additional benefits to your health and wellbeing. That is why I cannot stress enough the importance in following the aftercare advice given either by me or by any other holistic therapist. Because reflexology treats the entire body through reflexes on the feet, it is essential that when the client goes home that they rest, eat a light meal, drink plenty of water and give their bodies time to heal from within therefore restoring its natural balance. I am so chuffed to hear my clients telling me that they do follow the aftercare advice I give them, how their bodies have reacted to it and how they feel afterwards. This is such a positive thing for me as a therapist to hear because I want you, as my client, to get the most and the best from your treatment and by following and applying the aftercare advice you will be doing just that. Keep up the great work ladies and gents .... you are doing your body a wonderful service!! XX

HAND REFLEXOLOGY FOR SKIN CONDITIONS

Our appearance reflects our inner health and very often, what we first see with skin, hair and nails is simply a reflection of our inner imbalances. Reflexology can help to correct imbalances within the body and can be beneficial for people who suffer with various skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, dermatitis and rosacea ...

As a Reflexologist, when I work on the digestive and elimination reflexes ie gall bladder, stomach, liver, spleen, intestines, kidneys, oesphagus, I help to revitalise the sluggish digestive system, increase the circulation to the organs and help the absorption of vitamins and minerals as well as helping to eliminate toxins and waste products from the body. By bringing the digestive system back into balance not only improves its functions but it also improves the health and function of the rest of the bodily systems including the skin! This in turn can help to eliminate many of the skin conditions mentioned above.

However, some skin conditions are linked to stress and hormones and therefore by working the adrenal and pituitary gland reflexes it helps to reduce the stress hormone 'cortisol' in the body which helps to relieve stress and anxiety.

REFLEXOLOGY AND PSORIASIS

An alternative therapy to consider for treatment of psoriasis is reflexology. Psoriasis has no cure and can be a very painful condition with lesions that are red, scaly and inflamed. Although you should always consult and follow your GP's advice and continue to any prescribed medication for psoriasis, you may wish to consider reflexology as a complementary therapy to help to reduce the symptoms associated with your condition.

Reflexology for psoriasis is beneficial in relieving the symptoms of stress and outbreaks of psoriasis related to stress, as well as having a relaxing effect (similar to having a massage) on the body. This in turn helps to boost and strengthen the immune system. However, whilst reflexology is a relaxing and non-invasive therapy it may not be appropriate for some people with psoriasis due to the potential severity of psoriasis on the hands and feet as a result of tender skin, cuts and / or abrasions which could cause discomfort when worked on. The good news is that if you do suffer from psoriasis and your hands or feet do have lesions or scales, you can still have a reflexology treatment as long as your hands or feet are in a condition to be worked on. For many people who use reflexology to complement conventional medical care, psoriasis symptoms are reduced and since there is no cure of such a painful condition, the relief found with a holistic treatment such as reflexology provides some comfort and relief.
