Stress has become a pervasive issue in modern society. Whether it's due to work pressures, personal challenges, or a combination of factors, chronic stress can have a profound impact on our physical and mental health.

Reflexology offers a unique approach to addressing stress.

Reflexology can help to reduce the effects that stress has on you, by putting your body in to a state of complete relaxation, thereby reducing tension throughout the body’s systems.

It can also encourage the release of your body’s natural feel-good hormones; dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin and endorphins. These ‘happy hormones’ are well known for their ability to relieve stress.

Within the parasympathetic nervous system, the part that we don’t have control of, there are two sides:
1. fight and flight.
2. rest and digest.

These days, most people are operating in fight and flight consistently from the moment they get up to the time they go to bed.
This is becoming an impossible way to live and we are living stress-fuelled, burnt out lives.
We’re only supposed to use fight and flight when we’re in immediate danger and we should then be able to relax back into rest and digest.

The Vagus nerve promotes a calm and happy energy.

The main functions of the Vagus nerve include:

•Lowers blood rate and pressure.
•Allows communication between the gut and the brain.
•Stimulates production of digestive enzymes including stomach acid.
•Decreases inflammation.

Your body is the coolest thing you will ever own.

Among the many nerves that make up this system, the vagus nerve stands out for its profound influence on physical and mental health.

Often referred to as the "wandering nerve" because of its extensive reach throughout the body.

The vagus nerve branches out to multiple organs, including your heart, lungs, liver, spleen, stomach, intestines, and kidneys. It is a critical component of your autonomic nervous system (ANS) which regulates involuntary physiologic processes like heart rate, blood pressure, and respiration.

The benefits of reflexology

It can help to reduce stress and anxiety, providing a profound sense of relaxation.

It can help improve circulation, which in turn promotes the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the body's cells.

Reflexology can help to relieve pain and tension, particularly in areas such as the neck, shoulders, and back.

It can also support the immune system and can enhance the body's natural healing abilities.

Reflexology is a therapeutic practice that offers a range of physical and emotional benefits.

With its gentle and non-invasive approach, reflexology is a beneficial therapy to support fertility, pregnancy, and menopause journeys.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT A REFLEXOLOGY

I usually start a session by getting you to tell me about your medical history. This allows me to understand your needs and concerns and is aware of any underlying health conditions you may have.

Next, you will lay on a massage table. Clients remain fully clothed during treatments except for the feet and lower leg.

After sanitizing the feet, I will then activate the reflex points on your feet, that correspond with one side of the body, and continue to the other side until the whole body has been treated.

If I find pain, tightness or energetic blockage in any of the reflex points, I will apply pressure to that area to promote healing elsewhere in the body.

I will often end the session in a way that calms and relaxes the client. Don’t feel rushed to bring yourself back to the present moment too quickly. Take a moment to enjoy your relaxed state. I will recommend that you drink water and rest as necessary following treatment.

WHAT IS REFLEXOLOGY?

The theory behind reflexology is that different parts of the human body are connected to each other.
Reflexology practitioners use reflex maps of the feet and hands to relieve pain and other symptoms in corresponding organs.
They believe that when you apply pressure to reflex points on the feet and hands, other parts of the body are stimulated, energized, rejuvenated, and balanced.
Therefore, pressure on specific points on the left foot and right foot can lead to a significant decrease in symptoms originating in other parts of the body.
