Action Mental Health Foyle were delighted to welcome Deputy Mayor Alderman Niree McMorris to launch the 'Healing Through The Lens' photography exhibition at the People’s Gallery on Bishop Street. The showcase runs until 13 February and celebrates creativity, resilience, and community wellbeing💜

Deputy Mayor Alderman Niree also took the opportunity to support the NI CANT WAIT CAMPAIGN to stop the 64% cuts planned for the VCS in April 2026.

The NI CAN’T WAIT petition is on site in the Gallery- we are appealing to all the community in Foyle to come down and support, to stop services being cut for those who need our support. You can also sign the petition online here- https://www.amh.org.uk/ni-cant-wait/

💬A message from Action Mental Health

Action Mental Health, alongside other voluntary sector organisations, is facing a 64% cut in funding (£15.8m) for essential frontline services across Northern Ireland. That's £15,800,000...

These cuts would leave 11,000 people each year without support and put 400 skilled jobs at risk. Those who are supported are currently described as “economically inactive” and rely on our services to improve their mental health and return to work.

All of this comes at a time of rising operational costs, increased demand, and unprecedented pressure on staff, when mental health needs across Northern Ireland have never been higher and economic inactivity is the highest in the UK.

We have worked tirelessly to protect services and minimise disruption, but cuts on this scale cannot be absorbed without impacting vital programmes.

We are deeply concerned by the UK Government’s decision to reduce funding now, when these services are needed more than ever.

We really need your voice. We need this message to reach every politician here and in Westminster – they need to know that:
💜 Northern Ireland can’t wait
💜Mental health can’t wait
💜Support for vulnerable communities can’t wait

We’re forever grateful to our loyal supporters and we’re asking for your support by adding your name and standing with us against a decision that puts the health and wellbeing of local people at risk.

A welcome first step from the Northern Ireland Executive, that recognises the scale of the issue facing vital services across Northern Ireland. A 64% cut in funding will devastate service provision and set the region back years.

Action Mental Health, alongside our partners at NICVA and across the community and voluntary sector, are calling for the Northern Ireland Executive to now work with the UK Government at pace to:

• Reverse the current allocation model for the new Local Growth Fund
• Protect existing services through 2026/27, to ensure continuity for service users and protect skilled jobs
• Co-design a sustainable, long-term funding model that reflects the real needs of people and communities here

This is the moment for coordinated action that protects services, jobs and the people who rely on them.

The Executive has written to the UK Government calling for urgent changes to the Local Growth Fund to prioritise people and vital services in Northern Ireland.

On Wednesday, I was at Stormont with Action Mental Health Fermanagh and other representatives to back calls for the UK Government to reconsider its plans for the Local Growth Fund.

Under the current proposals, funding aimed at addressing economic inactivity would be reduced by 64% from April 2026. This would have a serious impact on community-based services across Northern Ireland that support people furthest from the labour market, work with local employers, and help relieve pressure on public services.

Removing this funding doesn’t remove the need for support, it simply displaces the problem elsewhere. I welcome the efforts of my colleague Robin Swann MP, who has been pressing the Government on this issue and has secured a meeting between affected organisations and the relevant Minister following a question to the Prime Minister.

An exhibition of artworks by clients of Action Mental Health💜

🗓️On Display in Central Library, Belfast from 20th Jan 2026 until 20th Feb 2026.

Over several weeks, participants in the skill development project developed their skills in drawing using a range of media. The programme was inspired by the 5 Steps to Wellbeing framework and was designed to gently challenge participants while support them in creating artworks they could be proud of.

Funded by the Public Health Agency through The Clear Project, the workshops were facilitated by artist Robert Peters.

At today's NICVA led rally on the steps of Stormont, feelings were made very clear that our sector stands united in its anger and dismay at the UK Government's decision to reduce funding for frontline, community support services when UKSPF funding ends in March.

We are also deeply concerned at the lack of response or plan from the Northern Ireland Executive to address this issue.

NI Can’t Wait! Funding for vital services provided by organisations like Action Mental Health will fall by 64%- putting at risk support for over 11,000 people across NI annually and meaning 400 skilled jobs are under threat.

Please get involved and support our campaign to reverse these cuts. Share our message on social media, email or talk to your local representatives and help us to protect those most vulnerable 💜
