📄 Repeat Prescription Guidelines – Please Read Carefully 💊 and please share widely!

To help your repeat prescriptions run smoothly and avoid delays, please follow the guidance below 👇

🔄 How the process works:

🏥 Nominate your chosen pharmacy for collection and make sure this is recorded on your medical record
📱 Consider signing up for text message notifications from your nominated pharmacy
💻 Order repeat prescriptions online via Patient Access (details available from reception)
✍️ Alternatively, leave a written request in the post box at the front door
⏳ Please allow 2 working days for the surgery to issue your prescription
🚚 Your nominated pharmacy will then collect the prescription and will need additional time to process and dispense it

⚠️ Important information:

⏱️ If your prescription has not been dispensed within 3 working days of your request, please check with your pharmacy first
🔍 The surgery can only begin investigating missing prescriptions after 3 working days from the date of request

🙏 Thank you for your cooperation. Following this process helps us provide a safe and efficient service for all patients.

The Surgery, Newtownards - Job Vacancies

15/01/2026

The NI childhood immunisation schedule is changing giving even better protection with the introduction of the varicella (chickenpox) vaccine.

From January 2026, eligible children will be offered a combined vaccine for measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (MMRV) - as part of the routine infant vaccination schedule.

As with other childhood immunisations, parents will be contacted by their GP surgery to arrange an appointment if their child is eligible. If you are unsure if your child is up to date with vaccinations the easiest way to check is to look at your child’s red book or speak to your health visitor or GP.

New Year’s Resolutions for 2026 – Let’s Work Together

Over the past week we’ve been sharing ideas for New Year’s resolutions to support health and wellbeing in 2026. Here’s another important one: please attend your appointments.

In 2025, there were 1,918 appointments where a patient did not attend a GP or nurse appointment and did not cancel in advance. That equates to almost 320 hours of lost clinical time that could have been used to care for other patients.

Non-attendance is not acceptable. Every missed appointment is a missed opportunity for someone else who needs to be seen.

We understand that plans change. If you cannot attend, please cancel as early as possible so the appointment can be offered to another patient.

By attending or cancelling appointments responsibly, you are helping us provide timely care to everyone in our community. Thank you for your support as we head into 2026.

Make 2026 the year you quit!

“The start of a new year provides a brilliant opportunity to make a fresh start and to quit smoking.”

Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do to improve your health and protect people around you from harmful second-hand smoke.

Stay well this winter and help stop the spread😷🦠

📌Take common sense steps to reduce the spread of flu and other similar illnesses by exercising good respiratory and hand hygiene and staying away from others if you have symptoms.

📌Self-care is often the best choice to treat minor illnesses. Pharmacists are qualified to give advice about different health matters, including minor illnesses, so consider speaking to a pharmacist before going to your GP.

📌And if eligible get your flu vaccine, COVID-19 vaccine and RSV vaccine.

🚭 Thinking About Stopping Smoking?

There’s no “perfect” time to quit — but the New Year can be a great opportunity to try.

Stopping smoking:
✔ Improves breathing
✔ Reduces heart and stroke risk
✔ Benefits health at any age

Support is available, and you don’t have to do it alone. Click below for advice and local stop-smoking services.

This website has been created by the Public Health Agency, with the involvement of smokers and ex-smokers, to support people in Northern Ireland to quit smoking.

🍷 Rethinking Alcohol This New Year 🍺

Many people choose January as a time to reflect on their drinking.

Cutting back on alcohol can:
• Improve sleep
• Help mood and concentration
• Reduce blood pressure and liver strain

Even reducing intake — not stopping completely — can have real health benefits.
