Our Story
The Centre was started with a small group of people with MS discussing the possible benefits of the then new treatment called "Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy". This was followed soon after with the formation of H.O.P.E. (the acronym stood for "Hyperbaric Oxygen Pembrokeshire Endeavour"), as a local registered Charity.
After some two years spent raising the necessary funds, the Centre started operations on the 6th January 1986 and Oxygen Therapy was at last available to local people with MS. Since that time the Charity has expanded its area of benefit to include people with other neurological conditions, such as Stroke and is now providing both Barochamber Oxygen Therapy and Physical Therapy to our Members. We charge a modest annual membership and our treatments are accessible and affordable. We try hard to create a welcoming, relaxed and sociable environment in our Centre for all to meet. Our Members and their family, friends and carers are always welcome.
We no longer use the acronym but the HOPE Centre is still all about, and for, its Members.
Over the years we have enjoyed very generous funding from people in all walks of life, from major companies, businesses, retail groups, other charities, the public, children and a real "lifeline" of monies from collection boxes. Without this continued revenue stream we would cease to exist as we are today. We thank all the very generous people of Pembrokeshire and all our Friends of HOPE worldwide.
