Homelessness rarely has one cause.

It can involve relationship breakdown, trauma, substance misuse, mental health challenges, financial instability, leaving prison, or loss of employment.

Often, it’s a combination of several pressures building over time.

That’s why a simple room is never enough.

At First People Housing, we work with men to address the wider issues behind homelessness — not just provide accommodation.

Through structured support, clear expectations, regular key work sessions and consistent engagement, we help men rebuild stability step by step.

Preventing repeat homelessness means tackling the whole picture — not just the postcode.

Homelessness doesn’t always look the way people expect.

It isn’t always just rough sleeping.

It can be:
• Living in a van or car and constantly moving on.
• Sleeping in a tent.
• Sleeping rough on the streets.
• Sofa surfing on a friend’s sofa and moving every few days.

It can look temporary.
It can feel unstable.
It is still homelessness.

Many of the men we support did not begin on the pavement. They began with instability.

At First People Housing, we provide structured supported accommodation for single men who need a stable base to rebuild.

Because having somewhere secure to sleep changes everything.

For some of the men we support, Monday represents more than the start of a week.

It’s another opportunity to stay steady, stay accountable and keep moving forward.

Consistency builds stability.

Stable housing is the starting point.

When someone has a secure place to live, real rebuilding becomes possible.

Through our partnership with Clarity Coaching & Counselling, men accessing supported accommodation can also access confidential therapeutic support.

Because recovery isn’t just about a roof.

Real change takes more than a roof.

The men we support rarely face just one challenge.

Housing instability can sit alongside domestic abuse, trauma, financial pressure, mental health struggles and relationship breakdown.

At First People Housing CIC, we provide safe, supported accommodation for single adult men who need stability, structure and time to rebuild.

But housing alone is not enough.

That is why we work in partnership with The Empower Project.

Together we provide:

• Safe accommodation for men in crisis
• Stability and practical support
• Specialist domestic abuse services
• Accountability and behaviour change work

When men have the right support around them, change becomes sustainable.

Support is stronger when services work together.

£7 million for young people’s mental health — a welcome shift.

Student loans may be dominating headlines, but something else has been announced that deserves attention.

The government has committed £7m to expand Early Support Hubs across England, aiming to deliver around 10,000 additional mental health interventions for young people aged 11 to 25.

No GP referral.
Drop-in access.
Community-based support.

For years, policy conversations have often prioritised older generations. This funding signals a shift — investing in prevention, early intervention, and accessible support before young people reach crisis point.

It will not solve everything.
But it matters.

We’ve broken down what this funding means, how Early Support Hubs work, and why early intervention is critical.

A safe place to live.
A safe place to talk.

At First People Housing, we work closely with Clarity Coaching & Counselling to ensure the men we support have access to confidential, specialist therapeutic support alongside stable accommodation.

Because rebuilding a life takes more than a room.
It takes the right support around you.

Housing and counselling, working side by side.

At First People Housing, stability is the starting point — not the destination.

Once residents are settled and ready, opportunities open up through our partnership with The Hideout Collective CIC.

That means real projects.
Real responsibility.
Real skills.

Some of the men involved had never:
• worked on a restoration project
• handled tools safely
• lit and managed a fire on a barge
• worked as part of a structured team

Now they are.

This is what progression looks like.

We provide the foundation.
The Hideout provides the opportunity to build forward.

It’s rained every day this year.

We complain. We moan. We get soaked on the school run or walking the dog.

Then we go home.
We put the heating on.
We make a brew.

Now imagine not being able to.

Our latest blog looks beyond the weather and into something much bigger — the reality of homelessness in England today.

• Over 330,000 households sought help last year
• Over 170,000 children are living in temporary accommodation
• Rough sleeping continues to rise
• Refugee homelessness has increased fivefold in four years

Behind every number is a person.
Behind every statistic is someone trying to stay dry.

Homelessness rarely “starts” on the street. It starts with eviction, benefit gaps, relationship breakdown, trauma, policy gaps — and often a system that responds too late.

This isn’t about blame.
It’s about perspective.

If the rain has felt relentless lately, this one’s worth reading.

A safe base.
Real support.
A way forward.

When someone is facing homelessness, leaving prison, or rebuilding after addiction, the first step is stability.

First People Housing provides supported accommodation for single men who need time and structure to reset their lives.

Residents can stay with us for up to two years, working alongside dedicated support staff to:

• establish routine
• address underlying challenges
• build responsibility
• plan sustainable next steps

This is not a short-term fix.
It is structured support designed to create lasting change.

If you need help, or you are referring someone who does, talk to us.

Homelessness isn’t simple.
It’s usually the result of stability breaking down.

When housing fails.
When income stops.
When relationships fracture.
When mental health declines.
When support disappears.

Some people refuse help. That’s true.

But refusal is rarely about “choosing the street.”
It is often about trauma, distrust, addiction, or not feeling safe in what is being offered.

Homelessness is complex.
But the root issue is almost always the same: stability has collapsed.

That’s why we provide supported housing.

Not quick fixes.
Not temporary beds.

A safe base.
Structure.
Time.
And a plan forward.
