No two people have the same grief experience. Living with grief can feel like very hard work.
William Worden published his suggested four tasks of mourning in 1982. They are:
1. To accept the loss
2. Experience the pain of loss
3. Adjust to living without the person we have lost
4. Reinvest the energy associated with the grief into something new.
Many people believe that the feelings of grief do not reduce over time. Instead, we become used to the grief and adapt to living with our grief - we absorb it into our every day lives so that we can continue to live and thrive.
