YOGA, MEAT, and the SPIRITUAL Path
Controversial! 🥩
I’m going to crash the myth of the "Perfect" vegetarian/ vegan/ pescatarian and plant powered yogi.. after 25 years of ‘I don’t eat meat’ diet.
First off, let’s address the elephant..or should we say cow in the room.
The stereotype suggests that to embody the essence of yoga, one must embracing a strictly vegetarian, vegan or whatever it is you call your diet
Believe it or not, your flexibility in the poses doesn’t correlate with your choice of protein. Or does it?
Being a "true" yogi isn't about what goes on your plate; it’s about what goes on in your mind and heart. The most enlightened people come in every shape, size, and diet plan.
Going to more in depth, why Women 40+ need meat..
Those who know me personally and my students are fully aware that I’m was in a critical state in January 2025 with such a low ferritin that I was offered a blood transfusion.
Despite not be able to even go up the stairs or walk my dog I was carry on teaching my classes, courses and training students.
I survived. Slowly but surely. Losing ‘friends’ who didn’t care or were too self absorbed. F*% # them.
I survived by starting eat meat, hangout with beautiful supportive people and make more time for myself.
I ‘escaped’ blood transfusion, but the reason why I did was the fact that physically, all my life, I was very fit, healthy and strong willed.
Now, let’s shift our focus to the fabulous women over 40+
As hormones shift and bodies change, proper nutrition becomes paramount.
Here’s why including meat in the diet can be beneficial, especially after 40:
1. Protein power: as we age, muscle mass naturally declines. Consuming lean meats is a fantastic way to maintain muscle strength, boost metabolism, and keep energy levels stable.
2. Iron game: women over 40 can experience an increased risk of anemia due to declining iron levels. Red meat, in particular, is a great source of heme iron, which is more easily absorbed by the body than plant-based iron.
3. Bones: as oestrogen levels drop, so does bone density which is osteoporosis alarm. Meat provides vital nutrients like protein, zinc, and vitamin B12, which all contribute to healthy bones. So, who says you can’t find your zen while enjoy chicken roast?
4. Mental clarity: eating meat can offer essential fatty acids, such as Omega-3s, which are crucial for brain health. Mental fog? It’s just not for me!
Eating meat doesn’t diminish one’s commitment to a yogic lifestyle; it enriches it, providing the foundation for energy, strength, and mental clarity.
So, the next time you roll out your mat, remember that true spirituality comes from within, not from your fridge.
Namaste, and pass🥩
