A brave nine-year-old girl from Newcastle has overcome an intense fear, thanks to her own determination and therapy at North Shields-based Blue Talking Therapies. 🫶

Everyday life had become a minefield for Emily Waugh, from West Denton, who would often panic, freeze, or try to escape if someone even simply mentioned her fear. Emily had been struggling with emetophobia - a severe fear of vomiting or seeing or hearing others be sick. 🙁

Her mum, Catherine, was recommended to try Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at Blue Talking Therapies in North Shields, and after just seven sessions with therapist Liam McCourt, Emily’s life has changed dramatically. She can now stay calm in situations that once felt terrifying.

Well done Emily you are an absolute 🌟❤️ And well done to everyone at Blue Talking Therapies - brilliant work 👏

Thank you Health Innovation North East and North Cumbria for sharing the importance of our work during this week of awareness. .
Placing mental health at front and centre of health improvement benefits all.
The slogan “No health without mental health” is an accurate description.
At Blue Mental Health Education & Training our team of mental health specialists strive to develop innovations to bridge the gap between physical and mental health and most importantly, focus our attention on universal early Intervention strategies and targeted prevention of longer term ill-health , to improve health outcomes for all.

This , we’re shining a spotlight on an innovator we’re working with – Blue Mental Health Support.

They’ve developed accessible training to help adults support children’s mental health early on. Now, they’re exploring how digital tools can improve care and put mental health on equal footing with physical health.

Mental health does not have to begin with specialist intervention - it’s everyone’s business.

A whole-school approach means creating an environment where every adult—teachers, support staff, administrators, kitchen staff and caretakers—act as an ally for student well-being. When all adults are equipped to notice, support, and respond with empathy, students feel safer, more connected, and more likely to thrive.

Every conversation, every interaction, every moment of care can make a difference. Let’s build schools where mental health is woven into the culture, not treated as an add-on.

If we work together there is no limit to the change we can make.

It is time to recognise the many strengths and talents that come from thinking and perceiving the world differently. By celebrating the strengths of neurodivergent individuals, we can begin the seismic shift of changing the way neurodivergent individuals are perceived and supported, empowering them to achieve their potential.

Together, we can change the narrative.
