How are you all feeling?
After the hustle and bustle of December, January is miserable (usually). December is full of celebration, extra food, extra drinks, extra decorations, twinkling pretty lights, Christmas trees. December is just extra everything π
January is a time most people start trying to diet and trying to get fit. Most of us are skint, cold and sad that everything is over.
I've heard a lot about wintering recently, made popular by Katherine May in her book Wintering - The Power of Rest and Retreat in Difficult Times.
She talks about how nature embraces winter. Plants and animals prepare and adapt. I have a hedgehog hibernating in my garden. She popped out last night for some food and went straight back in her house!
So with this in mind, let's slow down, pause and prepare. Winter is a time for hot chocolate, extra blankets, candles, cosy nights in and relaxing. Leave some fairy lights up, why get rid of them in the darkest months?
I've left my over table bar decorated with branches and added my tree lights until the light nights return.
Carry on wintering...
