John Spence Community High School, along with ‘Ashton's Tuesday Club’ based at the school, has been selected to receive one of the National Trust's 49 'Trees of Hope' saplings from the Sycamore Gap tree. The 49 recipients include schools, community groups, hospitals, and charities from all across the UK.

‘Ashton's Tuesday Club’ was named in honour of Ashton Clothier, a much-loved PE teacher at John Spence, who passed away in 2020 aged just 29, after a short battle with brain cancer. She was known for her dedication to young people with disabilities and created a fun, welcoming space for children with additional needs at the Tuesday Club.

It’s brilliant news that one of the 49 saplings from Sycamore Gap is coming to North Shields to honour Ashton’s memory.

You'll find some of the region's favourite street food at the market this weekend including; Great North Pizza Co, Chilli Padi, Spud Gun Loaded Fries., Hogs 'n' Chix, GRK Greek Streetfood, Smokey Joes, Coffee Curve and roasted chestnuts.

Some will be offering a festive twist on their usual menus.

There'll also be bars selling mulled wine and festive tipples - Enigma Tap and GIN & TONIA.

Grab a seat in Northumberland Square and enjoy your food and drink while listening to Christmas carols sung by local school choirs.

Due to a fire at the other end of Nile street the street has beern been cordoned off by the police and we have been advised to close for the day.

Live well with cancer cafe is opposite us if you have any bottle bags to spare - we can take them and pass them on if the cafe is closed.

We're on the hunt for any spare bottle bags you might have lying around. We're in need of these bags for our upcoming Christmas Fayre and would be incredibly grateful.
