I went to see a family recently who were considering a direct cremation after the loss of a loved one.
At the time, it felt like the simplest option and for some families, that is absolutely the right choice.
But later that evening, after some quiet reflection, her husband began to feel differently.
He said he just couldn’t go ahead without some sort of send-off.
Not something big or elaborate, just something that felt right.
I went back to see him the following day, and we talked everything through.
I explained that a funeral doesn’t need to be complex or overwhelming.
It can be simple.
Meaningful.
Full of love.
Together, we created a small, straightforward service that he felt comfortable with.
Nothing elaborate. Just a moment to pause, reflect and say goodbye.
And in the end, that meant everything to him.
We do find this happens more often than people might think, families initially choosing a direct cremation only to later feel they’ve missed that opportunity to say goodbye.
There is no right or wrong decision.
Sometimes people just need a little time to reflect, and that is what we are here for.
To guide, to explain and to help families find what feels right for them.
If you ever need a conversation, we are always here.
