A gentle reminder.

There is always a story behind the three second snapshot!

Taking care of yourself.

Noticing if/when social media has a negative impact on you and choosing to do something different.

If you're struggling, reaching out to a counsellor can offer you the space to better understand what's happening for you.

You don't have to be alone with this.

Knowing when to pause....

Take a rest.
Take a breath.
Take a walk.
Take a day off (from something)
This might be for a few seconds.
You may need a few minutes.

It might be that you need to take a day off (thinking outside the box- it could be taking a day off from social media, a day off from drinking coffee, a day off from social events etc etc...)

But, don't quit. Take a rest. Taking good care of yourself.

If you struggle to understand how this is even possible, this is where a counsellor can help to support you in discovering what taking a rest might mean to you and what you would find useful. You don't have to do this alone.

It can be difficult to know who to talk to at times.

Who can you speak with who will respect your privacy and offer confidentiality?

Who can you go to that will listen and really hear you without judging you or your experiences?

This can be what counsellors are for.

Offering you a space of non-judgement and confidentiality where you can talk about anything you are struggling with from the past, present or future.

You don't have to be alone with this.

We are often led to believe that there is something 'wrong' with us and that we have something to 'fix' within ourselves.
But, if we begin to look gently and curiously at our life, we might realise what is stopping us from growing, flourishing and living.
With what, where and who do you spend time with? How might these be having an emotional, physical or psychological impact on you?
Does it feel positive, negative or neutral (neither positive or negative that can show up as a numbness)?
It's not always easy to remove the things from our life that are causing us harm, but we can perhaps begin with the small things ...
Reflection point: what might be stopping you from growing? Are there some small things you might be able to remove from your life that would enable you to move forward, feel lighter or feel less stuck?

If we literally consider the type of environment that a plant needs to grow, it can help us to better understand what we, as humans, need.

Whilst going through therapy, it can be challenging and confusing when you first begin to experience calm or quiet.
Your body and mind might not be used to sensing when things are positive or if you feel happy or content, so it can come as a shock when you start to feel less sad, low or anxious and more OK than not.
This is why it can be important to find a counsellor who will sit with you and support you. Working together to better understand your emotional reactions and responses as you navigate your way forwards.
Healing and choosing differently might seem impossible right now, but you don't have to do this alone.

Whether you feel an experience is traumatic is up to you.
It's not for anyone else to judge.
Watching an interview with Gabor Maté this week, offered me a perspective: the time you felt unable to tell anyone about your experience is the trauma.
If we take time to consider this, we might find a greater understanding and compassion for the pain we felt at the time and possibly still do when we wanted to tell someone about our experience and either we couldn't or when we did, our experience was ignored or dismissed.
This is where talking therapy / counselling can help: to support you in finding the words to describe your experience and for someone impartial to listen and really hear you. Validating your feelings and supporting you to navigate your way through the pain and healing.
You don't have to do this on your own.

I watched this clip this morning and really liked the down to earth way that Mo Gilligan described his experience of therapy and how useful it has been for him as a place to open up about how he was really feeling.

We live in a world where black and white thinking is prevalent. We are taught to view thoughts, feelings and behaviours as "positive/negative", "good/bad".
If you've ever experienced counselling, you will know that the space offered is open to explore all thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Learning to describe what's happening for you without any pressure to stay "positive" and being supported by a counsellor to understand the feelings you experience can be liberating and can help you to move forwards in your life.

We don't always feel inspired and life can be tough at times. If we can take a moment to pause and check in, perhaps asking ourselves this question.

Are you feeling lost in your life? A professional counsellor can support you to navigate your way through.

I often hear people say that Mindfulness meditation is "not working"!

Understanding why we are practicing and what it is we might be wanting or expecting from the practice can help us to have an intention to be with our experience, whatever that is.

It certainly isn't always easy but I truly believe that when we learn to offer ourselves a friendly, compassionate space, things can change for the better (without the expectation of this happening, of course! 😊) ❤️

Staying close to people who accept for who you are and make you feel like it's okay to be yourself is so important for your wellbeing.

Finding a person or people who you feel comfortable being yourself with can be liberating, fun and soothing.

You might be surprised who you find that gives you the space to be your authentic self.

Taking care to place boundaries where necessary with people who criticise and judge you for who you are and the choices that you make. Going gently. There are people out there who will accept and welcome you to be fully you.

And, if you are struggling with any part of this, reach out to a professional counsellor who can help you to navigate your way through the challenges and difficulties you are experiencing.
