[That's what I used to believe too!! Yet when you think about it, it doesn't really make sense...!]

The ancient Yogis realised (as did many other spiritual mystics) that much of our "SUFFERING" comes, not from what happens to us . . .
. . But from our THOUGHTS about what happens

πŸ‘‰ I never used to be a "worrier"!

Most often you'd hear me say "I'll worry about it when / if I have to....!"

A series of pretty traumatic events - at a time when life seemed to be extremely chaotic & insane - triggered a kind of PTSD type disorder within me.

I spent 18 months regularly experiencing Adrenal Overload - feeling the Adrenaline flowing through my body, like acid in my veins . ..
Which would then be closely followed by thoughts of impending doom ..
The world seemed to be turning into a dark, soulless, dystopian nightmare that I wanted no part of ..
I regularly felt powerless .. helpless... hopeless . .

After starting to seriously plan my su***de, I realised that i had 2 choices;

Follow through with my plan (but I didnt want to abandon my fur babies) or make some serious changes ; and that included setting strict boundaries [such as not reading any kind of "news"!]
Because I realised that all the things I'd been terrified of hadn't actually happened. .

I also knew that I was GIVING ENERGY to some-thing i DIDN'T want (rather than giving it to the reality I DID want!) And that therefore I was more likely to ATTRACT 🧲 & CREATE what I didn't want ...

One of the simplest yet most powerful affirmations i regularly used was
πŸ’­ "I am HERE and I am SAFE...."

"I am HERE" = AKA not in some imagined, dark future

"I am SAFE" = None of the nasty things I've been scared of have / are happening. Right Now I am SAFE! And Right Now is all there is!

Let me repeat that;

Yesterday is gone.

10 minutes ago is gone!

Tomorrow hasn't happened...

We live in the Eternal Now.

(And animals are masters of this! They don't overly worry about what's to come. And they don't tend to hold on to stuff like we do! They may get upset over something.. Then they shake themselves off - which is how they release the Adrenaline - then they move on...!!)

Studies have revealed that humming significantly increases nitric oxide production by the brain with some studies showing an incredible 1400% increase in just 10 seconds.

Because I was afraid.

Afraid of being ridiculed . . .

Afraid of being called stupid (even though I'd called myself worse than that...!!)

Afraid of being judged ...

And thats when the light bulb πŸ’‘ lit up!

My stepfather used to really rip the sh*t oit ot me when I made a mistake as a child....

πŸ—― "Are you STUPID..???! Have you got sh*t for brains...?!"
. .

Considering the spiteful comments made by online trolls 🧌 and bullies, being called stupid doesn't really sound that bad ...

However

Being made to feel small . . Inadequate . . Useless. . . Worthless . . As a child . . .

That eats away at your Self Esteem, your Self Worth . .

πŸ’‘πŸ’‘πŸ’‘ And suddenly all the previous occasions of PROCRASTINATION or of being an ostrich & sticking my head in the sand whenever something went wrong (pretend it hasn't happened πŸ™ˆπŸ™‰πŸ™Š ) made sense ....!

I was afraid of my partner calling me stupid (Although, had i thought about it, i would have known that he wouldn't do that. But that's the thing with unconscious beliefs; They're irrational! But they're deeply ingrained!)

So I realised it was time to treat myself with the ultimate COMPASSION and KINDNESS . . .

Realising that I won't be alone in holding onto stored childhood wounds or adult self judgement & criticism. . . I decided to run a series of workshops to help others identify any Self Limiting Beliefs . . . And learn how to release them .

Each workshop can be experienced on its own . .
But the idea is that over the course of the 3 workshops, you will develop Tools & Techniques to help you Reclaim Your Power!

Believe it or not, I never INTENDED to become a 'Yoga Teacher' or a "Fitness Instructor" ... πŸ’β€β™€οΈ

In fact, i didn't really have any long term future plans or aspirations...!

I got into Teaching almost accidentally!! (Thats a story I'll share another day!!)

20+ years later . . . I still absolutely LOVE seeing people do things they never thought they could! (Hence how the nickname "That Donna" came about! It was often said that "That Donna gets you doing things you didn't think you could do...!)

So what happened when someone came to my PILATES STRENGTH FLOW πŸ’ͺ class for the first time & part way through gasped πŸ—― "I thought this [class] was for beginners...?!?"
To which I laughingly replied "Where did you get that idea from...??!?"

In that split second I decided to treat her as if i fully believed her more than capable of continuing what is quite an energetic, dynamic Pilates class* (Based on what I'd seen up to that point I knew she was & would find it challenging . . But I didnt think she was in danger of injuring herself so - giving plenty of options & encouragement as I always do - I carried on . . .)

Now, some of you may think that I acted unfairly or that I was being mean or cruel ...

But actually it was the absolute OPPOSITE!

I know that most often - given the OPPORTUNITY - we will QUIT.
We tell ourselves that we CAN'T do something. . . And we walk away (before making a fool of ourselves . ..!)

BUT ...
. If someone else believes in us, we're more likely to carry on . . .

And every time we do something we didnt think we could do, our confidence GROWS...

Think about how children respond to praise ... πŸ‘

πŸ‘‰ Their face light up! You can see that inner glow! And they try even harder, right?!

As adults we respond exactly the same way πŸ‘

Praise + Encouragement [BTW : "Encourage" means to "give courage" = "En Courage" = Give courage to.... ] = Building Inner Strength, Courage, Confidence & Self Esteem

Just as i don't treat my 90 year old student any differently than I do my 40 year old student (As i teach them all to LISTEN to their own body & trust their own judgement...) i decided, in a split second, to treat this new student as PERFECTLY COMPETENT & CAPABLE...
I instil in my students >

β–ͺ︎ Not to compare yourself to anyone else (including & ESPECIALLY me!! Although even i have days when my balance & co-ordination is absolutely s**t!!!) Not even a previous version of themselves!

β–ͺ︎ Work at your own pace (which is dependent on how you feel & what you need TODAY! Not last week or next week)

β–ͺ︎ Focus on - and celebrate - what you CAN & have done (not on what you CAN'T or haven't done)

β–ͺ︎ Leave the class feeling a sense of ACHIEVEMENT (The fact that you’ve actually made it to class means you're ahead of the game of all those who're sat on their πŸ‘ at home...!!)

β–ͺ︎ Focus on how you FEEL not on what you look like! (IOW: It doesn't matter if you had to stop or that you took options... If you feel fantastic / less stressed / looser / calmer / happier .. than when you started.. then its a WIN!) πŸ†


When she left with a smile on her face, it made my heart all warm & fuzzy!!

Squeeze Louise .. if you're reading this : I think you're fabulous! And I hope, with what your boss said too, that you'll start to believe that you ARE INDEED ENOUGH! And that you have no-thing to prove. You won't be everyone's cup of tea β˜•οΈ

So this class is more dynamic than my "typical" Pilates classes & is similar to vinyasa style Yoga. But you pick up the routine quite quickly & therefore you can really notice the improvement in your Strength, Balance, Coordination, Mobility & Flexibility!

The Moon 🌚 reminds us that even in the darkest of nights there is always a glimmer of hope...

This first FULL MOON 🌝 of 2026 is often known as the WOLF 🐺 MOON

Native American Indians often honour "Grandmother Moon" for guidance, renewal & releasing negativity, focusing on gratitude, balance & connecting to Nature's cycles. . .

Yoga, like most of the ancient traditions, encourage us to live in tune with our natural cycles & rhythms . . .

As we are comprised of 90% fluid πŸ’§ the Moon cycles affect us on an emotional & energetic level.

In this mornings Yoga class at Victory Swim and Fitness Centre we will be practising the "Moon Goddess Salutations" . . .

This is one of the reasons I like to include exercises in my classes that challenge & stimulate our 🧠 as well as our bodies...!

Just like when we repeat the same MOVES over & over again (the muscles kinda become lazy!!) therefore its beneficial to switch up the pace & tempo...!

And thats why I'll often throw in an exercise that shocks people out of auto pilot !!

Cognitive aging linked to stimulation, not just years lived.
