We’ve heard it all.
❌ “Hairdressing isn’t a real job.”
❌ “Hairdressers aren’t smart.”
❌ “It’s just cutting hair.”
Reality? We’re part scientist, part therapist, part artist. ✨
To even qualify as a stylist, most of us complete 2–3 years of training (NVQ Levels 2 & 3 or apprenticeships) in colour theory, anatomy of the hair & scalp, chemistry of products, cutting techniques, health & safety, and client care. Many then go on to specialise in advanced colour work, extensions, barbering, session styling, or even education.
I'm lucky enough to have trained with and hope to one day take on an apprentice of my own.
Career paths in hairdressing aren’t limited to the salon chair either — stylists can become freelancers, salon owners, educators, product ambassadors, platform artists, editorial stylists, or even work in film, TV, and fashion.
So no, it’s not “just hair.”
It’s science, skill, artistry, and years of dedication to helping people feel like their best selves.
And honestly? We LOVE it.
