Winter Covid and Flu Vaccinations

We have had a number of patients request separate covid and flu' appointments instead of a single appointment for both vaccines to be administered.

Unfortunately, due to capacity plus to allow patients to get immunised as soon as possible, we are unable to accommodate this request and we will need to book any patients who are eligible and want both vaccines in to a single appointment.

We would like to remind all patients of the importance of receiving vaccinations; these help prevent many infectious diseases plus protecting family members who may be unable to be vaccinated (such as babies who are too young or those who are too ill to be vaccinated) or those who may be more susceptible to the affects of contracting these diseases.

Yours in health, Mayford House Surgery.

Zero Waste Week - 1st to 5th September 2025

In support of zero waste week we would like to remind all patients to only order the medication you need.

Last year Humber and North Yorkshire ICB spent £332 million on medication. £265 million of this total was spend on repeat medications. The number of unused, returned medications amounted to £26 million for the Humber and North Yorkshire area.

This equates to £2.167 million per month, or £500,000 per week on medications that have been returned, more often over-ordered by patients.

Please be mindful when ordering your medication and only order the items that you require. If there are any medications you no longer require, please inform our dispensary staff.

Winter Covid and Flu Vaccinations

Mayford House Surgery has started inviting patients for their Covid and/or flu vaccinations.

Due to the significant changes in this season's eligibility criteria for Covid, we have only invited patients where age automatically makes them eligible. We will be inviting other 'at risk' groups in due course.

If you have not received either an e-mail, text or letter inviting you for vaccination, there is no need to contact the surgery. We will automatically be in touch with you as soon as possible, and prior to 1st October, when the programme is due to start.

Yours in health, Mayford House Surgery

Travel Assessments

Dear patients,

There is currently a delay in our ability to process travel forms submitted to us. Any forms submitted up to 6th August will be dealt with as soon as possible, however there is a delay of up to 3 months for any forms submitted after this date until further notice. Although we run a waiting list, we would like you to be aware of the long wait time. If you are travelling in the next 3-4 months, you may wish to seek advice privately so that you receive guidance and appropriate vaccinations in good time.

Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience. Thank you.

Care Navigation for Appointment Booking at Mayford House Surgery

When you contact the surgery—by phone or through eConsult—we’ll use our care navigation process to guide you to the most appropriate clinician or service, which means our reception team will ask you brief questions about your symptoms. This helps ensure you’re seen as quickly and effectively as possible. You may be offered an appointment with a nurse, pharmacist, physiotherapist, or another healthcare professional, or be directed to a local service such as a pharmacy or Urgent Treatment Centre. This also helps us keep GP appointments available for those occasions when you need them most.

We know many patients value seeing the same clinician, and we recognise the importance of continuity of care. However, if your medical need is more urgent, you may be recommended to see another clinician to ensure timely treatment. Our care navigation team will be able to advise you when this option is suitable for you.

Lastly, if you’re unable to attend an appointment, please cancel it as soon as possible. Every missed appointment is a missed opportunity for someone else in need.

Thank you for helping us help you.
