What an amazing session this month. Thank you to everyone who came along.

It was lovely to see AAC users, families and supporters learning together, trying new things and building confidence with communication.

We will not be meeting next month because of Easter. Our next session will be a community meet-up on Saturday 2nd May, chosen by our club members this month.

Please keep the date in your diary. More details will follow soon.

In the meantime, please like, share and follow our group so more AAC users and families can find the club.

Meet Julie Makaton Tutor co-facilitator of Northallerton Communication Club

👋 Hello, I’m Julie, I thought it was about time I introduced myself!

I qualified as a Makaton Tutor in 2005 and then became a Makaton Ambassador in 2023. I’ve worked in SEND education (schools and colleges) for 26 years and absolutely love what I do.

A few little facts about me:

☕ I love coffee, especially when it involves meeting up with family and friends.
🧣 Usually found wearing a scarf!
🚐 I have a campervan called Scoob.
🐘 My favourite animal is the elephant.
🦆 I somehow have a rather large collection of yellow ducks!

You can also find me over on Instagram:

I’m the co-facilitator of Northallerton Communication Club, we meet on the first Saturday of every month.

I create and sell symbol resources and I’m the author of Developing Communication Skills Through Play Guides (link in bio)

I deliver Makaton training both in person and online for parents/carers, professionals, settings and organisations, please feel free to contact me for more information.

Thank you for being here, whether you’re new or have been around since the start. I truly can’t thank you enough for your support 💛

National Residential Weekend 2026
21-23 August, Treloar College, Hampshire

The national residential weekend is back…with a difference!
We are excited to announce that our national AAC weekend is returning in 2026, and we are inviting you to run away and join us for the 1Voice Circus!

This is a great opportunity to meet other families who use AAC, and meet AAC role-models.

To be better able to support families, the weekend will be open to school-aged children only - under-18’s - though there will be some places for older role models available.

Visit our booking page for full information about the weekend and for details of how to register for the event. You will also find information on how to apply to be a role model or a volunteer.
