What is freedom of choice?
Freedom of choice means allowing clients to make their own decisions about their care, promoting independence, dignity, and wellbeing. Listening to and understanding our clients’ preferences is important as it empowers them and supports person-centred care.
During the client’s tea call, our caregiver offered all available options so our client could make an informed choice. Our client chose an egg mayonnaise sandwich cut into triangles, enabling independent eating. Dessert options were also offered, and our client selected a small variety to suit his preferences.
This demonstrates person-centred care by respecting our client’s choices and how they like their meals prepared and served.
