This weekend marks 𝟭𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 in Northampton.

In her memory, Northampton Guardians was created — a volunteer-led group who give up their time every weekend to help safeguard people in our town at night, offering support, reassurance, and care when it’s needed most.

To mark this important anniversary and 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁, 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗽𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗹𝗲 — India’s favourite colour — and displaying a poster in her honour. It’s a small gesture, but one made with genuine remembrance and gratitude.

We are proud to stand alongside 50+ venues across Northampton who are also taking part, coming together as a town to remember India and recognise the positive legacy that continues in her name.

💜 Remembering India.
💜 Respecting her memory.
💜 Supporting those who keep others safe.

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗡𝗚𝗛 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲!
Phase two of our Electronic Patient Record rollout will be transforming the way we deliver care for our patients.

Imagine a hospital where patient records are all in one place, where colleagues spend less time chasing paperwork and more time caring for our patients, and where decisions are made faster because the right information is at their fingertips. This is what the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) system developed by Nervecentre will do for our hospital.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗘𝗣𝗥?
An Electronic Patient Record is a secure, digital system that brings together patient information in one place, making it easier for clinicians to access accurate data, make faster decisions, and improve patient safety.

What this means for patients and our colleagues:
• Real-time data for quicker, smarter decisions – all in one system
• Fewer manual processes
• Fast test ordering of test and results in one system
• Giving our clinicians more time for what matters most – patient care.

𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁 𝘀𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗿
Since the launch of phase one in June 2025, the impact of the new system is already evident, with nearly 500,000 patient assessments recorded through Nervecentre so far. This remarkable achievement reflects the confidence our colleagues have placed in the system and demonstrates its value in transforming the way we deliver patient care. Nervecentre is already proving to be an invaluable tool, shaping and enhancing patient care across our hospitals.

The next phase is scheduled for summer 2026. This is an exciting time for our hospitals and the communities we serve; together, we’re creating a smarter, safer, and more connected way to deliver care.

We were delighted to hear our longest‑serving colleague, Elizabeth Summers, Lead Cancer Nurse at NGH, share her remarkable 51‑year NHS career on the radio this morning as part of a day of coverage dedicated to the NHS.

Liz reflected on how Northampton General Hospital has grown and transformed since the 1970s, with new services, specialist teams and significant advances in technology and treatment.

She also spoke about her long‑standing and passionate support for Maggie's Northampton — a project she championed for many years — which has supported more than 1,200 people since opening last October.

“It’s been wonderful to work with dedicated doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals who are so committed to supporting people through the most difficult times of their lives,” explains Liz.

Please do not visit if you have flu symptoms, vomiting or diarrhoea.

If you need medical advice and aren't sure which is the right service, contact NHS 111 online or by phone.

Norovirus is a stomach bug that causes diarrhoea and vomiting. It can be very unpleasant, but usually goes away in about 2 days.

You can usually treat yourself at home, but the most important thing is to rest and have lots of fluids.

Cold weather continues to affect many parts of the UK, and it can have a serious impact on health, particularly for older people, babies and those with long-term conditions.

Like hospitals across the NHS, our teams at University Hospitals of Northamptonshire are experiencing increased demand this winter, with more patients needing urgent care.

You can help protect yourself and others by:
• Keeping your home warm
• Taking medicines as prescribed
• Seeking advice early from NHS 111 or your GP
• Using A&E for life-threatening emergencies only

Acting early and using the right NHS service helps keep people well and supports our teams to care for those who need urgent hospital treatment. 💙

Feeling the cold? Here’s how to stay warm and protect your health this winter ❄️

Cold weather can increase your risk of colds, flu and more serious issues like pneumonia, heart attacks and strokes if you don’t keep warm, especially if you’re older or have a health condition.

Top tips to stay warm:
• Heat the rooms you use most. Aim for at least 18 °C if you can.
• Keep bedroom windows closed at night.
• Wear several layers of clothing rather than one thick layer.
• Have hot meals and drinks regularly.
• Reduce draughts by closing curtains at dusk and blocking gaps around doors.

Stay cosy, stay safe! 💙

With Storm Goretti and difficult weather conditions expected, patient transport services may experience delays or disruption.

If you can safely do so, we kindly ask families and carers to help transport loved ones home from hospital ahead of the worst of the weather, where discharge has already been agreed by the clinical team.

This will help ensure patients get home safely and reduce pressure on transport services during the storm.

Please speak to ward staff if you have any questions.

Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us keep everyone safe. 💙
