Today at the end of my run with Mark SlaterTraining, I was really struggling to get back up the hill. Then someone we know shouted out to keep going, telling us how strong we looked.

It was such a small moment, but it made a big difference. That little boost of encouragement gave me the push I needed to keep moving forward.

It’s funny how often it’s the simple, kind words from others that can shift our mindset and help us find that extra bit of strength.

In solution focused hypnotherapy, we often talk about noticing what’s going well and building on it. Encouragement whether from others or ourselves can be powerful.

This week my “What’s Been Good?” reflections have really highlighted the value of friendships and the importance of our tribes. 💛

A friend came back from a walk with an unexpected coffee for me “just because”, and another kindly made us chilli con carne when they realised how busy we’ve been, meaning we could enjoy a relaxed Friday evening.

It’s often not the big gestures that matter most, but the small, thoughtful things that show who cares. Sometimes the little things really are the big things. ✨

Driving yesterday the traffic was terrible. 🚗🚦

I realised I had two choices; let it ruin the start of my day, or use the time well. So I put on an audiobook and then the radio.

Just as I arrived, 9 to 5 came on and I found myself arriving singing and in a great mood. 🎶😊

Same traffic. Different focus.

On International Women’s Day

Women who lift each other up are powerful.

The women who listen, encourage, and stand beside others through difficult times are often the strongest of all. But even the strongest women need support sometimes.

It’s okay to pause, take a breath, and allow yourself the same compassion you give so freely to others. Support, understanding, and space to reset can make all the difference.

💜I feel incredibly privileged to work with women like these every day. I count myself very lucky to witness their strength, growth, and resilience and to have had their support every step of the way💜

A moving moment was shared by a client this week. 💬

Her son had been really poorly, and she used the relaxation technique we practise in sessions, gently “walking him down the stairs.” It helped calm his breathing and he drifted into a relaxed sleep.

Most importantly, she stayed calm and in control, helping them both through a stressful night. A wonderful example of how skills gained in sessions can be used in everyday life. 🌿

Last week I went to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child and it really got me thinking…

So much of the story is about how the past shapes us and what happens when we get stuck trying to rewrite it.

🦩People who know me know how much I love flamingos. 🦩

I was thinking about them this week why do I like them? Flamingos aren’t born pink. They’re born grey.

It’s what they eat over time that turns them pink. Their everyday choices quite literally change their colour.

And that feels like such a gentle reminder for us.

So many people believe they’re stuck with who they’ve always been, because of their past, their upbringing, or old labels.

But what if that’s just your starting point?

Just like flamingos, we’re shaped by what we consistently feed ourselves; our thoughts, our focus, our small daily choices.

Change doesn’t have to be dramatic.
It can be gradual. Intentional. Possible.

You don’t have to stay grey if you want to be pink. 💗🦩

Sometimes therapy can feel like that too.

It’s about gentle conversations, understanding how your brain works, and helping you move forward feeling calmer and clearer.

This week I asked a client to draw/write how she would explain things to someone experiencing the same difficulties as her.

She absolutely aced it 💗

After the session, she mentioned a new sweet she’d tried. When she described it, I immediately said,
“Oh… I’m not sure I’d like that.”

And in that moment I caught myself…

That’s exactly what we’d been talking about; not having preconceived ideas about what we will and won’t like. Not deciding before we try. Not letting old thinking patterns limit new experiences.

I wasn’t listening to my own advice!

So I went out, bought the sweets (yes… the Nerds Gummy Clusters 😄), and tried them with an open mind.

And guess what?

I loved them.

Such a small, simple moment but such a powerful reminder:

Growth isn’t about being perfect. It’s about catching yourself, adjusting, and choosing differently.

Even hypnotherapists are still learning 💫
