Calm Waters Hypnobirthing & Pregnancy Yoga Pregnancy Yoga and HypnoBirthing - Antenatal Classes in the Kettering, Wellingborough and Corby area

Pregnancy Yoga Classes are designed to encourage balance within the body and calmness in the mind to encourage a well positioned baby and positive mind set for a comfortable pregnancy, birthing and onwards for mum and her baby. We explore exercises and breathing methods to help us through labour reducing anxiety, the need for analgesia, avoiding common problems and promoting safe birthing. The Hypnobirthing course aims to educate and support women and their birthing companions so they may experience a positive, calm and comfortable birth. HypnoBirthing® teaches mothers and their birthing companions proven techniques to use antenatally, postnatally and during birth. These techniques if regularly practiced can reduce or eliminate the need for drugs or intervention and ensure that birthing is a positive experience not a traumatic memory. As a midwife I have witnessed how these techniques lead to a calmer and therefore quicker birth with empowering results for the mother and all involved. The classes give birthing companions purpose and a role in the pregnancy/birthing experience as they learn the best way to support their partners and babies through this special time. It is noticeable that babies born to HypnoBirthing® mothers are more calm and alert and breastfeeding initiation is smooth and prompt directly following their birth. The course consists of 4 weekly sessions and are suitable from 20 weeks gestation (the earlier the better to allow for plenty of practice). Classes are small to allow for personal interaction and plenty of learning opportunity so book early. Content includes:
Identify the birthing muscles and learn how to work with them for optimal results
Create a Birthing Plan to support your birthing choices
Learn how to set up a birthing environment to support a positive outcome and what to pack or prepare
Breathing techniques to aid relaxation to mother and improve oxygenation to the birthing muscles and baby
Relaxation Methods
Visualisation
Releasing limiting thoughts
Antenatal interaction and play with baby
How to make informed decisions throughout pregnancy and birth
Breast feeding advice

Tuesday’s PREGNANCY YOGA CLASS Prepare your body and mind for birthing. Take time to connect to your unborn whilst toning, stretching and learning to breath effectively, preparing for that very special birthing day. How we prepare in pregnancy affects the way we birth, our health, our baby’s development of their soul, their emotions and physical health and the way we bond with our baby. Discussion this week will be about one of the body’s greatest achievements the placenta, an amazing organ which does so much without the acknowledgement it deserves.

I teach patience. Something in our modern world that we seem to have lost the art of. If baby is growing and moving well why are we so keen to interfere? Here is Emma’s story

‘The yoga classes made a huge difference to me throughout my pregnancy and at the birth.
Having had back and joint issues pre-pregnancy, the yoga itself eased any aches and pains and helped to provide some exercises I could use as and when I needed them.
For me, the breathing exercises like the J breath, golden thread breath, and calming breaths were invaluable. Without these my labour would have been horrendous!
I had a beautiful home birth planned with a pool, but he decided not to come, and I delayed being induced as long as I could but eventually agreed to it using the BRIAN tool that Keeley taught me. However, it didn't go to plan, and after two days in hospital and a lack of midwives and space on labour ward, I was put on home leave. When I hit the 42 weeks, I was back in and agreed to try the hormonal pessary as a last-ditch attempt to get labour going without too much interference. Unfortunately, my body rejected them three times, so I said no more! While I was waiting for the doctor, labour started and it was like a starting pistol! I was 6cm before they even checked me. I had a very fast labour to the point pain relief was not an option. Without those breathing exercises, I would have panicked as it was so intense. My gorgeous baby boy was 9lb 5oz, and I did it on just gas and air!
I would highly recommend the classes for both the physical benefits and for the breathing exercises that were invaluable.’

How cute is this little man!

No I think you are the superwoman. Lauren was continually offered intervention ‘just in case’ but as her baby was growing and moving well she listened to her instincts and welcomed her baby into the world in a beautiful calm, confident and controlled manner.

‘My baby boy, Harrison, was born at home on weighing 7lb 9oz at 41 weeks. I had the calmest and most empowering birth! The picture in the pool was under 10 minutes before baby was born! Keeleys yoga classes were an integral part of both my pregnancies for preparing my body mentally and physically for birth. When my due came and went for this pregnancy, I thought about Keeleys teaching in her classes multiple times a day to prevent me from getting frustrated with my body. She instilled in me the fact that my baby would come when he and my body were ready, with no need for medical intervention as a low risk pregnancy. Everyday the week after my due date, I practiced yoga at home using the techniques Keeley taught me to connect with my body and my baby and get baby into the perfect position for birth. On the night, I went into labour I did 40 minutes of yoga and got into bed, around 10 minutes after this, my waters broke in a phenomenal fashion! The power of movement is truly amazing!! Strongly recommend Calm Waters to all the pregnant ladies out there! Thank you so much Keeley!! You are truly a superwoman!!! ###

Welcome Joshua! New life is always so magical. Well done mama listening to your body and its needs so it can do what it is perfectly designed to do.

‘I'm so grateful, I really tried to remember the advice you gave for labour and the positions definitely helped me cope with the contractions. I listened to my body and with the help of the lovely midwives felt so supported. It was incredible feeling baby Joshua be born as I didn't experience this last time. We enjoyed lots of skin to skin afterwards’.

Beds are in a labour room but it’s important to use them as a support to listen to your body and change position as your body is asking and not to be used as a conventional bed. Did you know labour beds change into a chair, kneeling, standing or squatting support?

PREGNANCY YOGA this TUESDAY. Focus is the emergence and greeting your baby for the first time. That wonderful moment that needs no interruptions to allow mother nature to ensure baby transitions gently to their outside world and bonding to happen. Then we have a beautiful guided relaxation, one of my favourites to close the class. If you would like to join us message me or email calmwaters@live.com (picture from Birth in Awareness)

A few years back, I was in conversation with a hospital-based midwife colleague about a shared frustration.

We were both so tired of hearing that women who had been told they had gestational diabetes (or GD, which is a debatable label in itself) were also being told they needed induction.

"The problem is," she said, "that some obstetricians tell women they're at high risk because they have GD, and that induction is the solution, but there's no evidence for that. But the lack of studies mean the issues are complex and there's no easy place I can point women to, so they can read more."

I knew just what she meant.

I had written about GD in my Inducing Labour book, but our conversation made me realise that I didn't have a blog post on this topic.

I wrote one that week.

Since I wrote it, my blog post on Induction for gestational diabetes: what's the evidence? has become one of my most popular.

And today I have checked and updated it, to ensure that it stays relevant and useful for the thousands of women, families, midwives and birth workers who visit it every year.

You can read it at https://www.sarawickham.com/articles-2/induction-for-gestational-diabetes/

I hope you'll find it useful.
