Calm Waters Hypnobirthing & Pregnancy Yoga Pregnancy Yoga and HypnoBirthing - Antenatal Classes in the Kettering, Wellingborough and Corby area

Pregnancy Yoga Classes are designed to encourage balance within the body and calmness in the mind to encourage a well positioned baby and positive mind set for a comfortable pregnancy, birthing and onwards for mum and her baby. We explore exercises and breathing methods to help us through labour reducing anxiety, the need for analgesia, avoiding common problems and promoting safe birthing. The Hyp

nobirthing course aims to educate and support women and their birthing companions so they may experience a positive, calm and comfortable birth. HypnoBirthing® teaches mothers and their birthing companions proven techniques to use antenatally, postnatally and during birth. These techniques if regularly practiced can reduce or eliminate the need for drugs or intervention and ensure that birthing is a positive experience not a traumatic memory. As a midwife I have witnessed how these techniques lead to a calmer and therefore quicker birth with empowering results for the mother and all involved. The classes give birthing companions purpose and a role in the pregnancy/birthing experience as they learn the best way to support their partners and babies through this special time. It is noticeable that babies born to HypnoBirthing® mothers are more calm and alert and breastfeeding initiation is smooth and prompt directly following their birth. The course consists of 4 weekly sessions and are suitable from 20 weeks gestation (the earlier the better to allow for plenty of practice). Classes are small to allow for personal interaction and plenty of learning opportunity so book early. Content includes:
Identify the birthing muscles and learn how to work with them for optimal results
Create a Birthing Plan to support your birthing choices
Learn how to set up a birthing environment to support a positive outcome and what to pack or prepare
Breathing techniques to aid relaxation to mother and improve oxygenation to the birthing muscles and baby
Relaxation Methods
Visualisation
Releasing limiting thoughts
Antenatal interaction and play with baby
How to make informed decisions throughout pregnancy and birth
Breast feeding advice

Wow time for yoga again! This Tuesday evening I would like to share an empowering tool to stay in charge of your care and understand your birth choices. I have used BRIAN for over 15 years I have noticed it is much more popular these days as BRAIN. This is how I was taught it but I like BRIAN better as it was my fathers name. At times when I wanted to think clearly I would seek his support and he would guide me to work out what was right for me. Birth is not about doctors, midwives or policies and time, it’s about mums, birth companions and babies working together supported by their care giver for a safe, calm and positive outcome. The way you view birth affects the way you actually birth.

This week in pregnancy yoga our focus will be movement in labour to help baby in their journey through the pelvis rather than restricting baby’s way out. Working with your body and your baby. If you would like to join us email calmwaters@live.com or message.
Learn to follow the quiet voice within that speaks with feelings rather than words.
Listen to your body and move the way it is asking so you can birth your baby.

Fills my heart with joy when I hear one of my yoga mama’s have used what she has learnt to stay in charge of her birthing and had a positive birth. You get one chance so ensure you remain in charge of your body. Look how gorgeous this little one is! New life never gets boring does it. You must be so proud of yourself Hayley.

‘Hi Keeley

I’ve been meaning to email update you for some time now but the newborn bubble has been so lush (and tiring of course that I don’t even know what day it is at the moment ha!)

I just wanted to let you know of the safe arrival of our beautiful baby Eden, she was born at 3:42am, weighing 7lb 5oz 🫶🏼

I wanted to share my story as I feel your classes definitely helped me along initially!

I started to get the odd contraction throughout the day on Saturday, which led to be quite frequent by the eve - we had dinner reservations at Border Clash in town (highly recommend btw) for Thai food and I was adamant that I was still getting my Thai so we still went with me timing my contractions 😂.
Afterwards we went home and I practiced my breathing exercises and visualisations that I’d learnt in your classes and hypnobirthing until I was at a point where I needed some pain relief (roughly 11pm). Once we got to the hospital the midwife eventually checked me over and discovered I was already between 8-9cm dilated and they managed to also get me a pool room which was all part of my birthing plan 👏🥹🩷.
However, After spending quite some time pushing (roughly 2.5hours) we discovered that baby Edens head was positioned incorrectly and her hand was also covering her face so I hadn’t been able to get her out, which then meant I had no option but to either have a forcep or c-section delivery. I opted for the forcep delivery and was able to give birth via epidural.
It didn’t end exactly as planned but I’m just so happy my baby girl arrived safely 🩷.

I would just like to Thankyou for your classes, il miss you and the girls on Tuesday! Please send them my love and wish them all the best for their births too! I’ve attached some photos for you too!

Take care & All the best,
Hayley xoxo’

Welcome little Ethan. Such a handsome little chap. I’m so pleased your mum found the techniques she learnt in her pregnancy yoga classes helpful and felt more in control of her labour and her care. Missing her friendly face every week.

‘After spending 12 hours contracting and managing to bounce on my ball and do some of the positions learnt in your yoga classes we made our way to the hospital. We weren’t as far progressed as I would have liked so went for a walk around the hospital to encourage dilation and the contractions. This led to my waters breaking outside of the A&E front doors. Ethan was cheeky like his sister and had meconium in his waters so we were admitted to the labour ward. The contractions really ramped up in intensity from then and I managed to use the breath practiced in the classes and worked out that 5-7 breaths got me through each contraction. I didn’t progress as fast as I could have so the syntocin drip was recommended. I used the BRAIN/BRIAN recommendation and agreed to the drip and I managed with the breathing and gas and air to get through most of my labour. Did end up requesting an epidural but Ethan decided he wanted to make his entrance faster than the epidural could be administered.

Having those breathing techniques really helped to keep me focussed and knowing the BRAIN/BRIAN information made me feel so much more in control than with my daughters birth in 2021.’

Hear me out before you eye-roll… this is from the Cochrane database of systematic reviews 2023 paper comparing homebirth to hospital birth.

In the article they explain that homebirth is not the ‘intervention’ that needs researching, in fact the move into hospital birth for all women is the experimental intervention that requires review.

Archie Cochrane awarded ‘the wooden spoon’ to obstetrics in 1989 because ‘the speciality missed its first opportunity in the sixties, when it failed to randomise the confinement of low-risk women at home or hospital… then having filled the emptying beds by getting nearly all pregnant women into hospital, the obstetrician started to introduce a whole series of expensive innovations without any rigorous evaluation’

Don’t shoot me, I’m just the messenger, it’s not my fault that hospital birth became the norm without rigorous evaluation…

I’ll discuss this more on ep.160 of podcast ‘Is homebirth a good option for you’

Hopefully see you there

Pregnancy yoga this week focuses on the prelabour warm up, what’s happening and having the patience to settle into your breath and not trying to rush the process. What you can do to pass the time and help the process. Impatience is a major cause of intervention. Love yoga, love birth.
