💚💚Its Global Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week! 💚
Please share!
💚This rare condition is often never heard of. Even the doctors have little understanding.
💚A very close member of our family was diagnosed with this last year. We had never heard of it before. 💚There are currently only three hospitals in the UK that see patients with this condition. One is in Newcastle and two are in London .
This is a huge issue for people living with this condition and raising awareness is key.
💚💚Its Global Mitochondrial Disease Awareness Week! 💚💚 What is mitochondrial disease and what can it do? This genetic, progressive cellular disease can attack anything in whole your body. No organ or bodily function is excluded. Mito cells make up 90% of our bodies energy production cells. Our Mito cells fail us causing illnesses, multiple body systems to malfunction and organ damage and failure leading to death. When organs malfunction it causes pain. Imagine running a whole house on the energy of one battery. That's Mito!
So why awareness important now? Because there are more children dying from Mito than childhood cancers. Let alone pediatric, teenagers and adults. It is just as bad as cancer and can be worse. Over 50 million Americans have mitochondrial disease. Most Infants sadly die hooked up to all kinds of machines with major organs failing them. This disease is debilitating, life threatening and there's no cure and no medication for it.
It can affect things like your immune system, endocrine glands, muscles, autonomic and pheriphal nervous systems, heart, liver, digestive and respiratory systems, kidneys, brain causing seizures, metabolic strokes and migraines; diaphragm, going deaf and blind. The lack of energy production causes extreme fatigue and malaise. Bone, muscle and nerve pain. A high risks for anesthesia. We deserve a cure.
