Spending time outdoors, surrounded by greenery, flowers, birdsong, and fresh air, can ease stress, lift your mood, and support your mental well-being. It’s not about doing anything grand—it’s about being present. Let your senses take over. Feel the sun or breeze on your skin. Notice the shape of a leaf, the scent of a flower, the hum of bees.

In the rush of everyday life, it’s easy to forget the simple things that bring us peace. Like stepping into a garden, walking through woodland, or simply sitting beneath a tree can be a powerful act of self-care. Nature has a way of slowing us down, grounding us, and reminding us to breathe.

Midges and insect bites can be a nightmare at this time of the year.
My daughter was working in shorts at our tearoom & gardens, and she had some big bites on her legs. I got my oils out straight away and dabbed some tea tree and lavender essential oil onto the bites to calm it - she couldn't believe how quickly it worked. I then quickly made up a spray bottle with water and oils I had available there and then as insect repellant! Then sprayed it all over her legs— and voila! It worked….No more bites! So simple 👍. I also sprayed another bottle adding the oils to white vinegar and cleaned all the windows which repelled the midges and also gave streak free glass!

The best part? That she couldn’t moan about it as it’s Non-toxic, and totally safe for food areas, and no nasty chemical fumes to breathe in. Just a quick reapply every few hours!

I just used peppermint and rosemary oils in water as only had them at the time but here’s the best version below ….

How to Make Your Own Natural Insect Repellent & Cooling Spray

Mix the following in a spray bottle:
- 10 drops lavender essential oil (midges hate it)
- 10 drops peppermint essential oil (repels insects and keeps skin cool)
- 10 drops rosemary essential oil (adds extra insect protection)
- ½ cup water or witch hazel (helps spread the oils)
- 1 tablespoon aloe vera gel (hydrates and soothes)
- 5 drops tea tree essential oil (antibacterial benefits)

Shake well and spray onto skin, clothing, or outdoor areas. It’s fresh, effective, and free from synthetic chemicals.

If you don’t have essential oils, you can also use fresh peppermint and lavender soaked in water.

Why aren’t we all doing this?! 🧐
