One of the key skills I teach in Pregnancy Yoga Class is learning to listen to your pregnant body.

Firstly we should take a moment to be in awe of the female body and its ability to nurture a developing baby without us telling it how to. The female body has an innate ability to grow, nourish, labour, birth and then feed (if you choose) and support your baby once they are born. We don’t need to tell our awesome body how to do any of this - but we do need to listen to it.

Day to day during pregnancy, what is our body telling us? Does it need to move and ease discomfort? Is it telling us we’ve done too much and need to rest? Do we honour that, or do we ignore it? If we ignore it we probably realise we shouldn’t have, when we don’t feel so great!

If you have more severe symptoms are you getting enough help and support? Have you been to your GP or midwife? Have they given you enough support? You can always ask for more.

The different trimesters of your pregnancy will bring different needs and demands. Your body can feel different in a matter of hours at some points especially as baby grows. A pregnancy yoga class can help you to take some time out to listen and tune into your body. To learn how to drop out of your mind and into your body a little more. This will help you to match what your body and mind needs with what you do through all your day to day activity from the level of movement and exercise you need, to the food you eat and the sleep or naps you need.

If you are practicing listening to your body during your pregnancy, you will be really well set up to listen to your body through labour and birth. When you work WITH your body during your birthing experience it is likely to be an easier experience.

This term were diving into the themes and characters of The Ramayana. If you missed the first class here's a blog post with a summary of the story.

The Ramayana is an epic poem attributed to the sage Valmiki (500 BCE to 100 BCE) it has over 24,000 verses. It is the story of how Rama rescues Sita from the Demon Ravana. It is a classic good over evil story, but within it are teachings and themes aplenty that connect to the history and teachings of yoga. The Ramayana is not just a story; it encapsulates the moral and ethical values that are central to Hindu philosophy. It is a guide for ethical living and spiritual devotion.

Read on for a summary of the story and some of it’s main characters, and a few links to further your learning. Link to blog in my bio on insta

Are you expecting a baby? Have you recently moved to Northwich? My pregnancy yoga class in Lach Dennis, just outside Northwich is a perfect place to meet other mums-to-be and begin to build your community for your pregnancy and postnatal journey.

"Having moved to Northwich about 3/4 years ago I was wanting to find a like-minded community of women who I would feel supported by, in my entry into motherhood. Sarah provided a fantastic community space with brilliant yoga sessions for gentle stretching and relaxation . I couldn't recommend the classes enough, having also done Sarah's birth skills workshop with my husband and now doing the mum and baby yoga. The pregnancy yoga sessions felt like a brilliant moment to relax and connect, Sarah also provided great guidance on where to source information about birth and baby. Thank you so much for creating this safe space." Eleana

If you are a first time parent, you may not have had a lot of practice with babies before your own arrives. This is common and it takes time for you to become confident in how to pick them up, hold the, change them. Learning your baby's cues is another art form as well!

In my Northwich Mum and Baby Yoga classes parents and babies enjoy gentle movement, suitable for all, which can help to:

• soothe your nervous system

• ease out tensions

• offer time to chat to other parents and create community

• feel confident in handling and holding your baby

• soothe baby's digestive system

• promote better relaxation and sleep for baby and you

• bring fun into your day with songs, rhymes and smiles

• create 1to1 time to bond with your baby and learn their language

• begin to re-balance, strengthen and recover and re-find yourself gently

"I didn't realise how much I would learn and grow in confidence with handling my baby and learning her cues" - Catherine

Many parents are surprised, like Catherine, that my baby classes provide a lot of time and space for you to increase in confidence in both handling and communicating with your baby

Please head to my website for information or get in touch to find out more or if you have questions 😊
