🚨 Unregulated beauty treatments are more dangerous than you think.

📊 A recent investigation found that at least 8 Brits needed urgent surgery after botched aesthetic procedures — including non-surgical BBLs, unlicensed dermal fillers, and “vampire” facials.

💥 Risks include:

Life-threatening sepsis

Permanent facial disfigurement

Chronic nerve pain & scarring

💉 Non-medical “bloodletting” is being offered for just £80/session — with zero qualifications.

Don’t gamble with your health. Stay safe, stay informed, and always choose medically regulated treatments.

Very true.
01/03/2025

Very true.

When it comes to our health, our eyes, our teeth etc., we seek advice from a medical professional qualified in that field of expertise.

So, why do we treat our faces differently when seeking aesthetic treatments?

Aesthetic treatments like botox, fillers and thread lifts are MEDICAL treatments which should only be performed by appropriately trained medical clinicians 🩺

But due to the lack of regulation in aesthetic medicine in the UK, you don't need to be medically trained to offer aesthetic treatment. That means anyone can legally buy filler or Botox and inject others.

So, if you're considering having an aesthetic procedure like Botox or fillers, you need to do your due diligence.

All medical treatments come with risks, but in untrained hands, those risks are significantly higher.

You only get one face. Don’t put it at risk by being injected by someone with little understanding of human anatomy, infection control, and emergency/complication management.

These treatments should be obtained only from doctors or nurses trained to use them in an appropriate healthcare environment rather than a beauty salon.

Another well written piece.

It’s easy to feel confident about the treatment you want, especially with so much information available online and on social media.

But while you may have a good idea of your goals, a professional consultation is an essential step in ensuring the treatment you’re considering is the best and safest option for you.

A consultation isn’t just a formality—it’s a vital part of the process that ensures your results will align with your expectations while prioritising your health and safety.

Every face is unique, and what works for one person may not be suitable for another. A thorough consultation allows your practitioner to assess your individual facial anatomy, skin type, and medical history.

They’ll consider factors you might not have thought of, such as how the treatment interacts with your features or how it might affect your overall appearance. This personalised approach ensures that the treatment plan is tailored to your needs, giving you natural, balanced results.

Additionally, a consultation provides a chance to discuss potential risks and manage realistic expectations. You’ll gain a clear understanding of the procedure, the products being used, and what to expect during recovery. It also gives you the opportunity to ask questions and ensure you feel confident in your practitioner’s expertise.

Skipping this step might lead to outcomes that don’t meet your goals—or worse, unnecessary risks. A consultation ensures you’re fully informed and that the treatment is the right choice for you.

But when the price seems too good to be true, it often is.

Many low-cost providers cut corners by using poor-quality or counterfeit products, which not only deliver inconsistent results but can also pose serious risks to your health.

Without proper regulation, these products may not meet safety standards, leaving patients vulnerable to complications.

Beyond the products, cheap treatments often reflect a lack of professional qualifications, inadequate training, and even no insurance.

Practitioners offering “budget” services may not have the skills to manage complications, such as infections or vascular occlusions, and there’s rarely any accountability if something goes wrong.

Without proper medical oversight, you could be left on your own to deal with the consequences of poorly performed treatments.

When it comes to your health and safety, investing in a qualified, insured practitioner who prioritises ethical practice is always worth it—because cheap treatments can end up costing far more than money.

It’s a common misconception that all aesthetic practitioners undergo the same training before offering treatments. In reality, the level and quality of training can vary widely, especially in the UK where the industry remains largely unregulated.

While some practitioners are highly qualified medical professionals—doctors, dentists, or nurses with years of clinical training—others may have completed only a brief course or online seminar before starting to practise. This disparity in training means that not every practitioner has the same depth of knowledge or ability to manage complications.

High-quality training should cover essential areas like facial anatomy, safe injection techniques, and how to handle adverse reactions, but not all courses meet these standards.

Unfortunately, this lack of consistency can leave patients at risk of poorly performed treatments or unsafe practices.

To ensure you’re in good hands, always check your practitioner’s qualifications, their professional memberships (such as BCAM), and ask about their training background. When it comes to aesthetic medicine, expertise and experience make all the difference in achieving safe, natural-looking results.

A practitioner’s ethics are just as important as their skills because aesthetic medicine isn’t just about results—it’s about safety, trust, and doing what’s right for the patient. Even the most talented practitioner can fail their patients if they don’t prioritise ethical principles.

An ethical practitioner always acts in your best interest. This means giving honest advice, setting realistic expectations, and saying no to treatments that could harm or distort your appearance. They won’t exploit insecurities or push unnecessary procedures just for profit.

Ethics also ensure your safety. Responsible practitioners follow strict medical standards, use approved products, and never cut corners—even when cheaper shortcuts might seem tempting. They uphold hygiene, transparency, and accountability at every step.

Beyond technical skill, ethics build trust. A great practitioner doesn’t just deliver results; they care about your long-term well-being and treat you with respect, fairness, and professionalism.

So, when choosing an aesthetic practitioner, don’t just ask about their qualifications—ask about their ethics. The right balance of skill and integrity is what truly sets the best apart.

Never assume, always ask questions!

Assuming that an injectable treatment is safe, CE marked, or regulated without proper verification can be dangerous because not all products or practitioners adhere to these standards.

Unregulated products may contain harmful ingredients or contaminants, posing significant health risks. Additionally, injectors without proper credentials or experience may administer treatments incorrectly, leading to adverse effects such as infections, nerve damage, or poor aesthetic outcomes.

Ensuring that both the product and the practitioner are certified and reputable is crucial for safety and effectiveness. Always verify credentials, product authenticity, and regulatory compliance to avoid potential complications.

Social media is filled with unnatural-looking, exaggerated, filler results.

And this portrayal misleads many into believing that such outcomes are the norm for lip filler procedures, deterring otherwise perfect candidates from considering the treatment.

There are far too many people using injectables to distort and over-enhance features like the lips and jawline, which makes a face look strange, unnatural and out of proportion.

Instead of chasing after an idealised version of beauty, we should focus on embracing our individuality and celebrating our unique features.

Skilled and reputable practitioners will embrace your individuality, respect your natural anatomy and use injectables to help you look and feel simply the best version of yourself.

Stay away from the latest fads and trends - your face is worth so much more than that.
