Our family therapist David Kenny is very much looking forward to presenting at the Brainwaves event on Thursday 23 November in Manchester.

In his presentation, David describes the benefits of having a family therapist involved and working as part of an MDT. He introduces the fundamental systemic ideas and uses case examples to illustrate the richness and range of therapeutic support that a family therapist can bring to a case. He hopes to support case managers in fighting the good fight for families to access the support they are ethically though maybe not legally entitled to.

With the mission of helping professionals guide families through the often much changed life after ABI, the Ahead Together conference provides clinical, legal, research and deeply personal perspectives on the impact of brain injury on families.

In ‘The Other: Head On’ Gavin will be in conversation with Steph Thompson - the ‘other half’ of Rugby World Cup winner and former British Lion, Steve Thompson, who, at the age of just 42, was diagnosed with a brain condition called chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Whilst diagnosis brought some explanation and sliver of comfort, life since for the Thompsons has been a rollercoaster of laughter and tears. Steph and her family live their lives as best they can.

Gavin have had the great pleasure of working with Steve Thompson (age 44), the former England and British Lions rugby player. Steve has been diagnosed with Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, which is associated with early onset dementia. Steve and Gavin worked together on helping him manage the emotional and physical consequences that his condition has had on him and his young family. BBC2 has aired a personal documentary following Steve’s diagnosis – ‘Head On: Rugby, Dementia and Me’ and it was a privilege for Gavin to take part
