Unpopular opinion: The microwave might be the most normalised health compromise in your kitchen.

Before you roll your eyes — hear me out.

We question seed oils.
We question ultra-processed foods.
We question water filters and non-stick pans.

But we rarely question the metal box on the counter that blasts our food with radiation so we can eat in 90 seconds.

Yes, microwave radiation is “non-ionising.”
Yes, it’s considered safe.

But safe doesn’t always mean optimal.

Microwaves heat food by aggressively exciting water molecules. It’s fast. It’s intense. And it’s uneven.

Have you ever:
• Burnt your mouth while the middle was still cold?
• Noticed leftovers feel rubbery or oddly dry?
• Felt strangely bloated after a reheated ready meal?

Food isn’t just calories. It’s structure, enzymes, energy, texture.
And when we prioritise speed over quality every single day, that adds up.

I’m not saying throw yours out tomorrow.

It’s not always behaviour. Sometimes it’s blood sugar.

When blood glucose drops quickly, the body releases adrenaline and cortisol.

In children, this can look like:

• Sudden tears
• Explosive reactions
• Irritability
• “Out of nowhere” meltdowns
• Refusing food but clearly dysregulated

Now layer neurodivergence on top.

Many ND children:
– Don’t feel hunger early (interoception differences)
– Hyperfocus and forget to eat
– Prefer quick carbohydrates
– Struggle with protein textures

So they often miss the early hunger window… and crash harder.

This isn’t about strict food rules.

It’s about stability.

Sometimes supporting regulation starts with:
✔️ Regular protein
✔️ Balanced snacks
✔️ Gentle structure
✔️ Reduced mealtime pressure

Not discipline.
Not shame.
Not “they’ll eat if they’re hungry.”

Nervous systems need fuel.

Does that make us dumber than the animals?

They know based on taste and being in touch with their bodies and sense NOT to eat it.

We on the other hand know it's sprayed, can read it on the labels, can see videos and posts and studies about the damage it does, be living with the damage and STILL buy it from these people and eat it (and give it to our unsuspecting kids).

Go figure!!

HALLOWEEN & THE HIDDEN TOXIC OVERLOAD

This may be a tough post for some to read, but it needs to be said…

We are watching a generation of children become sicker, heavier, and more inflamed than ever before. Dis-eases that were once seen only in adults (fatty liver, insulin resistance, anxiety disorders, autoimmune conditions) are now showing up in kids.

And while most people shrug and say, “Oh, it’s just Halloween,” the truth is… it’s not just Halloween.

It’s the start of a seasonal sugar spiral that lasts for months... Halloween, Christmas, New Year’s, Valentine’s, Easter... a revolving door of “celebrations” that have become nothing more than socially accepted cycles of toxic overload.

The sweet’s bowl may be gone in a week, but the effects linger for a lifetime.

Why Is Sugar So Addictive?
Because it’s not the sugar of decades past.
Sugar today is chemically engineered to hijack your brain... lighting up the same pleasure centers as co***ne. It spikes dopamine, floods your system with insulin, and leaves your cells screaming for more.

Your body gets stuck in a loop of craving, crashing, and consuming again, all while your immune system weakens, inflammation builds, and your mitochondria (your body’s energy factories) start to shut down.

Sugar isn’t just empty calories, it’s a biological weapon against your cells.

It’s Not Just the Sugar
The real danger lies in the combination of ultra-processed oils, artificial dyes, preservatives, emulsifiers, and endocrine disruptors that weren’t even in our food 50 years ago.

What used to be fruit juice can now be high-fructose corn syrup and synthetic flavoring, check the labels!

What used to be bread is now glyphosate-soaked grains and fortified fillers.

What used to be a treat is now a chemical cocktail designed for addiction.

This is why our bodies, and our children’s bodies, are breaking down. Their systems were never designed to process this level of chemical chaos.

This isn’t about guilt, it’s about ownership. You can’t change the world’s food system overnight, but you can take back your home, your body, and your health. Because what you do now (the habits you form, the choices you model) ripple into the next generation.
