Your midwife may recommend doing pelvic floor muscle exercises during and after pregnancy.
Research shows that doing daily pelvic floor exercises during pregnancy can help strengthen the muscles that support your growing baby. This can reduce the chance of leaking urine (wee) when coughing, sneezing, laughing or exercising by 29% in the first 3–6 months after birth.
What are pelvic floor muscles?
They sit like a hammock at the bottom of your pelvis, supporting your bladder, bowel and womb. These muscles help you control when you go to the toilet. Because they’re internal and discreet, it can be tricky to know how to exercise them properly.
