Able Community Care

Able Community Care Trusted for 45 years, Able Community Care provides 24 hour live-in care services. A real alternative to moving into a residential care setting.

Nationwide support including in rural and remote locations. Visit www.ablecommunitycare.com for details Able Community Care, established in 1980, offers a real alternative to residential care providing live-in care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. We care for people in England, Scotland, Wales and the Channel Islands. Our live-in care service gives back independance and the security of knowing there is always someone close at hand. Our rotational live-in care system offers people with high dependency care needs (or low dependency needs but also requiring companionship), a one to one live-in care service in their own homes, thereby eliminating the need for them to move into a residential home setting. Personal assessment, evaluating cost, care monitoring, quality of service monitoring, risk assessment and reviews are all part of the care package. We offer a variety of care packages which include long term live-in care, short term respite care, home from hospital care and holiday companion care. Able Community Care conducts business out of its head office in Norfolk, situated just outside Norwich in an attractive renovated building called 'The Old Parish Rooms' on the outskirts of Whitlingham Country Park since moving to the premises in 2003. Staff who work from our head office are divided into various departments which include Senior Managers, Care Managers and Recruitment, Administration and Marketing Teams. We additionally have two regional representatives; one who covers south west England and Wales, and the other who covers the south and south east of England.

As a care provider throughout the UK for the last 46 years, in a care sector which is more difficult than I have known, the following testimonial arrived with us yesterday and gave validation to what we try to achieve daily for our clients and their families:

Daughter of our Client March 2026
For the past four years our lovely Able carers have provided truly exceptional care for my 92 year old father in his own home. They are experienced, trustworthy, patient and consistently compassionate in everything they do. Their person-centred approach ensures that his individual needs are always understood and met, while promoting his comfort and well-being every single day. They treat him with genuine respect as if he was part of their family.
As a family, we are deeply grateful for the reassurance and outstanding support they continue to provide.

The Friday Care Tip – February 27th 2026
We regularly come across alarming scams, and this week we encountered the same one twice — so it felt important to share.
This particular fraud targets passengers in taxis and people making charitable donations on the street. It works like this: when you pay by debit or credit card, the driver or fundraiser tells you the transaction has failed. On the second attempt, they discreetly cover the amount field on the card reader and ask you to enter your PIN again — but the amount being charged is very different from what you agreed to pay.
Because the transaction appears routine, you may not realise anything is wrong until your bank statement arrives or you receive an instant payment notification.
If this happens to you in the UK, your bank may offer a refund — but this is not guaranteed, particularly where a PIN was entered voluntarily.

"I'm happy because I'm living in my own home," said John, 80
Live-in care is a genuine alternative to moving into a residential care home. It allows people to remain in the comfort of the home they love, surrounded by familiar memories and routines.
If you have a relative, a friend, or know someone who wants to stay independent at home, tell them about live-in care support. Give them the power to choose where and how they live.

Today, one of our Managers completed a 322-mile round trip, at no cost, to meet a potential client. Why? Because at Able Community Care understanding how someone wishes to live and be cared for is at the heart of what we do.
During the visit, amongst other things which would have been discussed were:
• How the person wants to live in their own home
• Questions around cost, availability, and carers’ professional qualifications
• Most importantly, the wages our carers would actually receive
Tomorrow, we’ll send an offer letter outlining how we can provide the care support they want.
By taking the time to meet face-to-face, we ensure we share clear facts and figures, and we respect the client’s preferences should they choose to work with us in the future.
Since care is personal, understanding comes first.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR LANDLINE
The UK is changing the way landline phones work and the following information can be shared with any person who is anxious about the change or has discarded, without reading, letters from their provider concerning this.
Traditional landlines are being upgraded to a new digital system before January 2027 but you will still have a landline and you will keep your existing phone number.
What You Need To Do
• Wait for your phone provider to contact you about your switch date.
• Do not ignore letters about 'Digital Voice' or landline upgrades.
• Tell your provider if you use a personal alarm, fall detector, or telecare device.
• Ask about a free battery backup if you rely on your landline during power cuts.
What Will Change?
• Your phone will plug into your broadband router instead of the wall socket.
• Your phone number will stay the same.
• You can still make and receive calls as normal.
• During a power cut, your phone will not work unless you have battery backup.
Need Help?
If you are unsure about anything, contact your phone provider directly. If you feel vulnerable or rely on your landline for emergencies, tell your provider so they can offer extra support.

Not knowing who will show up to care for your loved one is stressful.

For families and individuals receiving regular support, the uncertainty of “Is it the same carer as last week? A new face? Am I even booked?” is all too common.

Able Community Care is different. Every placement comes with detailed carer information—and a photo. This can be shared not only with our clients but also with family members, POAs, and other representatives, no matter where they are in the world.

We’re a nationwide live-in care provider, removing one of the biggest frustrations in care: uncertainty. With Able, you always know who is coming and when—making life easier for everyone involved.

The Friday Care Tip – 6th February 2026
Question: Do all GP practices have to offer online appointments in the UK?
Answer: From October 2025, GP practices in England must keep online consultation systems open during working hours (8:00am–6:30pm, Monday to Friday) for non-urgent requests such as appointments, medication queries, and administrative issues. These systems allow GPs to provide advice and help reduce pressure on phone lines.
If patients report “red flag” symptoms (for example severe chest pain, sudden vision loss, or possible cancer symptoms), they are automatically directed to urgent or emergency care. Submitted forms are reviewed by a GP or another appropriate clinician, who then decides the next steps, including advice or booking an appointment.
GP online consultations are also available across Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, although the tools and services offered vary by individual practice.

The Friday Care Tip 16th January 2026
Have You Made A Will?
Many of us mean to make a will, but it often slips down our list of priorities. If you've been putting it off, here's an opportunity that might help.
The next Free Wills Month in the UK runs throughout March 2026, starting on the 2nd. It offers people aged 55 and over the chance to have a simple will made or updated at no cost through participating solicitors. The campaign runs twice a year, with sessions typically in March and October.
You can find participating solicitors on the Free Wills Month website (freewillsmonth.org.uk) and book an appointment on a first-come, first-served basis. If you don't want to wait until March, charities such as Macmillan and Mind offer free will services year-round for people of various ages.
