Our rotational live-in care system offers people with high dependency care needs (or low dependency needs but also requiring companionship), a one to one live-in care service in their own homes, thereby eliminating the need for them to move into a residential home setting. Personal assessment, evaluating cost, care monitoring, quality of service monitoring, risk assessment and reviews are all part of the care package. We offer a variety of care packages which include long term live-in care, short term respite care, home from hospital care and holiday companion care. Able Community Care conducts business out of its head office in Norfolk, situated just outside Norwich in an attractive renovated building called 'The Old Parish Rooms' on the outskirts of Whitlingham Country Park since moving to the premises in 2003. Staff who work from our head office are divided into various departments which include Senior Managers, Care Managers and Recruitment, Administration and Marketing Teams. We additionally have two regional representatives; one who covers south west England and Wales, and the other who covers the south and south east of England.

At the time of writing this Tip, tens of thousands of UK homes are without power due to Storm Goretti. If you are not aware of The Priority Services Register, this may be of interest to you or someone you know.
The Priority Services Register (PSR) is a free UK-wide service offering extra help during electricity, gas, or water supply interruptions.
You may be eligible if you or someone in your household relies on medical equipment, has a disability, long-term illness, dementia, mental health difficulties, refrigerated medicines, is of pensionable age, or has children under five.
Support during a power cut can include:
• A 24/7 priority contact number
• Text and voice alerts about local outages and severe weather
• Tailored support such as home visits, hot meals, welfare checks, and updates for family or friends
• In some cases, hotel accommodation and transport
• On-site community support with hot food, drinks, Wi-Fi, and charging points for major outages
To join the PSR, contact your local electricity network operator, gas distributor, and water supplier, as each runs its own register. You can find your providers using your postcode on the Energy Networks Association and Water UK websites, then apply online, by phone, or by post.

The Friday Care Tip 2nd January 2026
Friday Care Tip: Understanding Your Care Options in 2026
When you’re choosing home care, it helps to know the different care models so you can pick what works best for you.
Care agencies directly employ carers and manage everything—training, payroll, scheduling, and supervision. This fully managed service means less involvement for you, though it offers less direct control over day-to-day arrangements.
Introductory agencies work differently. They carefully match you with vetted, self-employed carers, then you take the lead in managing the day-to-day care relationship. This model offers greater flexibility and control, often at a lower cost, because you're directly involved in how care is delivered.
What matters most? Ask yourself: Do I want a hands-off, fully managed service, or would I prefer more control over who cares for my loved one and how that care is provided?
Since 1980, Able Community Care has specialised in the introductory model—we were among the first, private Live-in Care Providers when most home care came from local councils. For 45 years, our approach has been simple: listen to what families want, then match them with carers they'll be genuinely happy to welcome into their home. Our focus has always been creating rotational care teams that feel right for you—because the best care happens when families have the support they actually want, delivered the way they expect.
Do you have questions about finding the right care model for your family? Call us on 01603 764567 to discuss your needs, or request an information brochure. You can also visit our website at www.ablecommunitycare.com for further information and to complete a Service User Application Form.

Care Provider Brings Relief to Families in Scotland's Highlands and Welsh Valleys

Families struggling to find reliable live-in care for elderly relatives in remote areas of Scotland and Wales now have a lifeline, thanks to a Norfolk-based company that specialises in locations other providers won't serve.
Able Community Care Ltd, founded by Angela Gifford in 1980, has built its 45-year reputation on providing dependable care in the Scottish Highlands, Welsh valleys and other rural communities where finding quality live-in support can seem impossible.
"Many care agencies simply won't operate in remote areas," explains Angela. "They see the distance, the travel logistics, and the challenges, and they say no. We've always said yes. For 45 years, we've been connecting families with excellent carers in places other providers consider too difficult."
The company operates as an introductory agency, acting as facilitators who arrange everything for clients. Families choose their own carers from self-employed professionals, many of whom have worked with the company for over a decade. With a 24-hour on-call system and daily support emails to all carers, reliability is guaranteed.
"Our reliability is 100%," says Angela. "We only lose clients through bereavement or if they sadly run out of funds, never because they're dissatisfied. When you're caring for someone in a remote Highland cottage or a Welsh valley farmhouse, that reliability matters even more."
For families living in cities while elderly parents remain in rural family homes, the worry can be overwhelming. Able Community Care provides peace of mind by connecting clients with experienced carers who understand the unique challenges of remote living.
The financial aspect is equally compelling. With minimum wage rising to £12.71 per hour from April 1st 2026, agencies that employ carers face wage costs alone of £2,135.28 per week before employment costs and fees. Able Community Care's all-inclusive service ranges from £1,300-£1,700 per week, covering the carer's payment, travel allowance, food allowance, agency fee and VAT.
Approved by the Jersey Care Commission, the company's standards are proven across challenging locations and jurisdictions. "Whether it's a croft in the Highlands or a cottage in the Brecon Beacons, we understand what's needed".
The company also runs a community protection initiative, having distributed 300,000 free 'Do Not Knock' door stickers to protect elderly people from doorstep scammers. Started in 2019 after |Angela’s own stepmother complained about cold callers, the stickers are available free to anyone who requests them.
For care enquiries, contact Able Community Care on 01603 764567, email info@ablecommunitycare.com or visit ablecommunitycare.com. For free door stickers, email info@ablecommunitycare.com. All enquiries answered within 24 hours.

Ask for Angela

The Ask for Angela safety project, launched in 2016, is a nationally recognised, not-for-profit initiative used by bars, pubs, clubs, and other venues to help anyone who feels unsafe, vulnerable, or threatened. It allows individuals to discreetly signal staff by asking for “Angela,” indicating they need help without drawing attention or escalating the situation. Trained staff then provide assistance, such as calling a taxi, contacting friends, or removing the person causing distress. Many large chains and independent venues participate and may display posters to indicate involvement.
If you have contacts in the hospitality industry and they have not heard of Ask for Angela you may like to direct them to the Ask for Angela website.

Received from a family member of a client:
To whom it may concern:
I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Able Community Care, by far the best caring company I've employed.
Their carers are of a high calibre: they demonstrate capability with compassion and efficiency with empathy . I had no hesitation in leaving them on their own: they knew what to do - and did it. The company were very understanding of my requirements and dealt with them in a most humane way.
Able Community Care really is a most caring company.

The Friday Care Tip 12th December 2025
Planning Ahead for Care: Why the Holiday Season Matters
The Christmas and New Year period often brings families together, and it's during these gatherings that relatives may notice an older loved one could benefit from care support in the coming year.
As a home care provider with over 45 years of experience, our key advice is this: whether you're considering a care home, hourly care support, or live-in care, research your options before care becomes urgently needed. Having information empowers families to make informed choices that truly suit their loved one's needs, rather than accepting whatever is available during a crisis.
What to Look for When Exploring Care Options
Here are some helpful steps to guide your research:
• Request brochures from providers you're interested in
• Speak with your GP's local nursing team for recommendations on trusted local providers
• Arrange visits to providers' homes or offices to get a feel for their service
• Ask important questions about staffing levels, carer training, and continuity of care (especially for home care arrangements)
• Understand the costs involved and what carers are paid
• Find out how the provider keeps families informed and involved in care decisions
These considerations will give you a broader perspective and help you make the right choice for your family.
