Funeral Expenses Payment

The Funeral Expenses Payment (www.gov.uk) is a one-time means-tested payment. It could be used to pay for:

✅ Burial or cremation fees, including the doctor's certificate.
✅ Travel to arrange or attend the funeral.
✅ The cost of moving the body within the UK (if more than fifty miles)
✅ Death certificates and other documents
✅ You could also receive an additional £1,000 to cover other expenses like a coffin, flowers, or funeral director's fees.

To apply, you must be a close family member or partner of the deceased. You must also get at least one of the following benefits:

✅ Universal Credit
✅ Income support
✅ Income-based Jobseeker's or Employment and Support Allowance.
✅ Pension, Child Tax or Universal Credit
✅ Housing Benefit
✅ Working Tax Credits related to disabilities

You can apply for a Funeral Expense Payment over the phone or by mail. You must apply within six months of the funeral.

⚠️If it is discovered that the deceased's estate could have covered funeral expenses, you will be required to repay the funds.
