“People think being an HGV driver is just driving and music all day.
What they don’t see is the loneliness.

Sleeping in a cab miles from home.
Missing birthdays.
Missing normal life.
Eating alone.

Waking up in different industrial estates wondering what day it is.
No office banter.
No teammates.

Just you and your thoughts for 10 hours straight.

And when your mind isn’t in a good place… that cab can feel very small.
The pressure to keep going.
Delivery times. Traffic.
Fatigue.

But you still have to be switched on — because one mistake in this job isn’t small.

Check on the drivers you know.
We carry more than freight sometimes.”

Everyone and their mother loves to blame insulin

“Insulin is why you can’t lose weight.”
“Carbs spike insulin, so you store fat.”
“Cut out fruit or you’ll be fat forever.”

Cool story.
Here’s the truth 👇

Insulin is NOT the fat-loss boogeyman.

Insulin does not override the laws of thermodynamics.
You don’t gain body fat just because insulin shows up.
You gain body fat from a sustained calorie surplus.
Period.

So why do influencers make insulin sound like Voldemort?
Because fear sells.

If they convince you your body is broken, you’ll buy their detoxes, carb-cutters, and “blood sugar hacks.”

What insulin actually does: • Helps shuttle nutrients into cells so you can literally stay alive

• Can suppress hunger (helpful for fat loss for some people)

• Supports lean muscle and metabolism

• Plays a role in recovery, sleep, and hormones

What research shows: • When calories & protein are matched, high-carb vs low-carb = same fat loss

• You can have low insulin and still not lose weight if you overeat

• You can eat fruit, spike insulin, and still lose body fat.

The only thing insulin “prevents” is starvation.
Your body isn’t the enemy.
Your insulin isn’t broken.
Your metabolism isn’t sabotaging you.
You don’t need fear.

You need a plan that actually works.

🚛 HGV drivers – what’s your biggest barrier to weight loss?

❌ Long shifts & irregular hours
❌ Poor food options on the road
❌ Sitting all day
❌ Fatigue & stress eating
❌ Bad sleep in the cab
Most drivers don’t struggle because of motivation.
They struggle because the job makes consistency hard.

“Are your working hours slowly damaging your health… without you even realising?”

If you’re an HGV driver, think about this: Long days sat in the cab.
Early starts, night shifts, broken sleep.
Eating whatever you can grab at services or in a lay-by.
Over time that can mean: 👉 Weight gain

👉 Poor sleep
👉 High blood sugar
👉 Constant fatigue

And the scary part?
Most drivers don’t notice it until it becomes pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes.

The job makes it hard — but small changes are possible, even on long shifts.

đźš› Why HGV drivers are high-risk for pre-diabetes & Type 2 diabetes

This isn’t about willpower.
It’s about the job.

Here’s why drivers are one of the highest-risk groups 👇

❌ Sitting 9–11 hours a day
❌ Food choices = service stations & lay-bys
❌ Skipped meals → massive blood sugar spikes
❌ Poor sleep in the cab
❌ Stress, deadlines, traffic
❌ Nowhere safe to exercise

That combo?
It destroys insulin sensitivity.

And yet drivers get told:
👉 “Just eat better and exercise more.”

Not realistic.

📉 The truth:
You can still reduce risk and even reverse pre-diabetes from the cab: âś” Protein at every meal
âś” Smarter food swaps
✔ 5–10 min walks after eating
âś” Better sleep habits

This is a system problem, not a driver problem.

If you’re a driver — you’re not broken.
The environment is.
