Rolfing is a form of hands on body work and an educational process that can address posture, alignment, recovering from pain, performance, balance and wellness. As Rolfers we work with our hands in the fascial/connective tissue of the body. We address the patterns that we get into in our every day lives; we look at patterns that co

uld be more efficient and mean we are more well, more balanced and more free; where we can be more on our own 'line' and breath, walk and work more efficiently. We also work with perception; how we build our world and our relationships and how we touch and function in standing and walking and every day living, whatever that is for each person. Rolfing is officially a 10 session process, which we recommend is taken step by step. However some clients come for 1-3 sessions, or continue Rolfing if they find it useful, beyond the 10 sessions

Rolfing can help

- People of all ages with histories of pain and discomfort including the lingering effects of accidents, illnesses, surgery and trauma

- Workers engaged in physically demanding jobs or exposed to repetitive motion or strain in the work place, including desk work

- Individuals seeking relief from chronic physical ailments associated with aging and anyone hoping to recovery freedom and ease of movement

- Athletes, dancers, actors, musicians, performers, yoga or martial arts practitioners or anyone wishing to improve their body awareness and physical perforamnce

Rolfing clients often say that ‘magic happens’ in Rolfing sessions, in their bodies and lives.
I think that with all the wizards hats and crystal balls that our imaginations have conjured, we’ve forgotten that magic is real. Magic is touch, and listening and tending, nesting in each other’s gaze, being heard and seen, being willing not to know but to touch and move, explore and be with; change happening easily, coming out of pain and discomfort, finding ease when there was none, waking up gestures that were never made and then caused pain, growing through the subtle and huge scoliosis that we all have, like roses. This used to be available in every village, every community. But wasn’t supported into our exchange systems at times of change. So it feels like magic. And it is real magic.

I’ve been contemplating ‘innovation’ and how it is that so many Rolfers create new ways of working in Rolfing and in other movement modalities, sciences, philosophies and artistic endeavours they are connected to. And often our clients too, during a Rolfing process, create things they haven’t before, new ways of working, seeing, being, organising our world. I sense this is because, humans are so grown by the world, unlike any other animal, we come into standing, walking and moving way after birth. So in so many ways we are stood, moved behaved by the world around us. This means that we are patterned by what is already here, how our social and cultural realities have come to move us.
And to come back to our own structure, there are different, innate ways of seeing, moving and being that we may not have explored. And as we land here, we see differently, organise our internal world differently, and then see and feel how we can organise our external world differently too. We arrive on our very individual offering to the world, it clarifies and moves, creating our world differently.

The neurological magic of a running and jogging practice. And the work we do with Rolfing to enable deep possibilities in movement, that give us a joyful, easeful, confident running practice without pain and strain.
Notes from my Rolfing offices 😊. The last in my running series.

Notes from my Rolfing office : re-aligning the coccyx after a bang - which can effect our breathing, walking and balance. And a little nod to a series I’ll be doing about jogging and running.

My third and final notes in this little series on ‘Supporting the menstrual cycle with Rolfing’. Today we talk more about pelvic floor and all the visceral ‘diaphragm’ aspects of us women.
Happy as always to hear comments / thoughts / questions.

Waking up the function of our particular posture. Knowing what we need, resisting what we don’t, turning in the ‘right’ direction, getting what we need. Notes from my Rolfing clinic on how Rolfing works with the functional aspects of our embodied orientation, our life through our body and how it moves.

‘The poetic body’. A short dive into the potential of this embodied presence; in our bodies, lives, movement and dancing.

It’s a phrase I use to describe a particular embodied reality, that I support and awaken in my Rolfing, dancing and teaching practices.
