Help for Psychology

Help for Psychology Our primary aim is to be the most adept organisation in the UK at providing personalised Autism and ADHD assessments, no matter the complexity of the case.

The core function of the organisation is to offer assessment, diagnosis and support to children, adults and their families affected by developmental difficulties. This focus is primarily in the areas of autism, pathological demand avoidance and ADHD. We are also able to offer help and support to children and families, without developmental difficulties who are struggling with anxiety-related problems or difficult behaviour.

As a parent of a daughter, how often have you heard the phrase from a clinician, or a GP - 'It's just anxiety!' - and at that point they try to bring the conversation to a close about the reasons why your daughter presents the way she does. This raises the question - 'Why is "anxiety" so often the first stop for autistic girls?'

Our latest blog article delves into the reasons behind why so many autistic girls are not getting a correct diagnosis. For full details, click the link below:

FREE AUTISM SCREENING

Are you concerned that either yourself or your children may be autistic? If so, we have a free autism screening service which you can access online. Using this free screening does NOT oblige you to use our autism assessment service. It is exactly as we describe it ... it is free! Also, you may be interested to know that many adults and children, and in particular women and girls, often fail to get a correct diagnosis due to 'autistic masking'. Both our adult and child autism screening pages discuss this point, and provide links to other parts of our website which examine the impact of autistic masking.

For parents seeking help for their neurodivergent child, the fear of being misunderstood is real. But what happens when that misunderstanding leads to devastating accusations of Fabricated or Induced Illness (FII)?

A landmark report from St George's House is bringing this critical issue to the forefront, examining the frightening intersection where complex autism presentations are misinterpreted, and parents are wrongly accused of harm. This is a conversation that needs to be had to protect vulnerable families and ensure children get the right support.

Have we been looking at neurodiversity the wrong way round? For too long, we've focused on helping neurodivergent children adapt to a world that wasn't built for them. But what if, instead of trying to change the child, we changed the environment? This thought-provoking article explores a powerful analogy: are we handing children 'right-handed scissors' and then wondering why they struggle to cut? It's time to start changing the scissors and building a truly neuro-inclusive world. A new proposed law, the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill, could have a significant impact on neurodiverse children and their families. While aiming to protect children's welfare, there are concerns that it may lead to a system of surveillance that could penalise families who have chosen home education to support their child's specific needs. This article delves into the potential consequences of the bill, including the creation of a national register of children not in school and a "cradle-to-grave" digital record for every child. Is this a necessary measure for child protection, or a threat to neurodiversity and a family's right to choose the best educational environment for their child?

Neurodiversity advocates raise concerns about the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill, citing threats to education and inclusive learning.
